See Jeremy Renner Back With His Family Following Horrible Accident
Jeremy Renner shared a photo of himself with family at Six Flags.
Jeremy Renner is reclaiming his normal life, whatever it takes. In January, Renner wrote a goodbye note to his family following a snow plow accident that nearly ended his life. He has come a long way since, and on Friday, the Hawkeye actor spent the day with his family at Six Flags, posting a picture of the excursion on Instagram.
The photo shows Renner in front of a roller coaster, surrounded by loved ones and the cane and electric scooter that assisted him around the park. “Good Friday, made magic on the mountain with some of my amazing family!” Renner wrote. The post serves as the latest update tracking a miraculous recovery for Jeremy Renner.
On New Year’s Day, Jeremy Renner was at his home in Nevada. Snowstorms buried the area, and Renner braved the conditions to help free his nephew’s vehicle stuck in the snowfall. Renner was in his snow plow, a vehicle he had operated many times; this time, he made a grave error.
Jeremy Renner opened up about the accident on ABC News, telling Diane Sawyer exactly what led up to the fateful moment. He climbed halfway out of the snow plow’s cab to look back and check on his nephew. Renner fell, and as he tried to get back up, he slipped again. He had forgotten to engage the parking brake on the snow plow, and the vehicle rolled over him.
“You should be inside the vehicle when you’re operating [it,] you know what I mean?” Renner said. “It’s kind of like driving a car with your foot outside the car … It is what it was. And it’s my mistake, and I paid for it.” He did pay for it. Jeremy Renner broke 30 bones in the accident, one of which punctured his liver.
His family recounted the horror of seeing Jeremy Renner intubated, clinging to life in the hospital. At first, no one knew the extent of his injuries; the accident had been potentially fatal. Despite the pain and mystery, his family stuck by his side throughout his stay in the hospital.
Renner’s ribcage, jaw, and eye socket were reconstructed with metal, rubber bands, and screws. A titanium rod was installed in his leg. Despite his condition, Jeremy Renner considers himself lucky. He is alive, supported by his family’s love and the doctors’ expertise who saved his life. He even had hospital visits from fellow Avengers Anthony Mackie and Evangeline Lily.
As he recovers from his accident, Jeremy Renner is determined not to let the trauma define his life. If he could go back, he may choose to stay in the snowcat, but he would not change his decision to go after his nephew. “So I shift the narrative of being victimized or making a mistake or anything else,” he explained. “I refuse to be f****** haunted by that memory that way.”
It may be a while before Jeremy Renner is ready to suit up with his superhero companions, but he is expected to appear at the premiere of his new series, Rennervations. In it, Renner travels the world to help communities by repurposing vehicles to serve essential functions. The first episode of the vehicle renovation series hits Disney+ on April 12.
Jeremy Renner has a long way to go in his recovery, but the pace at which he has improved has been miraculous. When he was unsure whether he would survive back in January, it would have been hard to imagine that a few months later, he would be at Six Flags. But if there is anything the world has learned about the Avengers, it is that they never give up.
