The Walking Dead’s Next Ep Gets Two Clips And A Promo
Last night’s episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead, “Clear,” already ranks among the best of the franchise. (Click HERE to see me gush about it at great lengths.) It reminds us that Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his merry band of survivors still cling to their humanity, not always an easy task in a world that tries to kill them at every turn. In the escalating conflict with the Governor (David Morrissey) and Woodbury, this capacity for human emotion is what will set them apart from their enemy—not everyone in Woodbury, but certainly the Governor and his core crew of goons.
With four episodes left in season three, the two sides creep closer and closer to full-scale war, and from the look of these two clips and this short promo for next week’s ep, “Arrow on the Doorpost,” we’re on the brink.
In “Arrow on the Doorpost,” Rick and the Governor have a sit-down in an attempt to prevent bloodshed—a meeting seemingly brokered by Andrea (Laurie Holden). Considering all the yelling in this video, and the fact that you see the prison crew loading up for bear—weapons courtesy of Morgan (Lennie James)—you don’t expect these talks will result in all that much peace.
While Rick and Daryl (Norman Reedus) clear what appears to be an abandoned processing plant of some sort, we get a peek at a little surprise Hershel (Scott Wilson) has in store for any unwelcome visitors. He’s got pistols taped to either side of his leg stump. Clever. After all, who checks the stump?
When the only words in a clip are “We have a lot to talk about,” you may expect, you know, some talking. Unless the people involved are Rick and the Governor. Neither is big on speeches; they’re men of action, not words. So where does that leave the show? The people who follow them? On an all-out collision course, that’s where. Rest assured that whatever happens in “Arrow on the Doorpost,” it’s only going to up the ante.
Hopefully, next week The Walking Dead will continue to build on the tension and emotion of what is maybe the best episode since the pilot. This week we got to see how good the show can be, let’s see if they can capitalize on that.
