Jane Fonda Stars In The Most Popular Comedy On Streaming
Jane Fonda's 80 for Brady is currently streaming at the top of the charts on Paramount+.
Known for her decades-long career, political stance, and never fearing the status of being a nepo-baby, Monster in Law star Jane Fonda is one of the best actresses of our time. After assembling a knock-out ensemble, there’s no doubt that Fonda is celebrating alongside the rest of her 80 for Brady co-stars as FlixPatrol reveals that the title is currently in the #1 streaming spot on Paramount+. With four of the biggest names in Hollywood sharing their mutual love for all-star quarterback Tom Brady, there’s nothing not to love about one of the best comedies to so far come out of 2023.
Joined by her longtime best friend and collaborator, Lily Tomlin, and fellow legends Sally Field and Rita Moreno, Jane Fonda leads a cast of later-in-life women who are dead set on making their Tom Brady dreams come true and see the football player and his team, the New England Patriots, compete in the 2017 Super Bowl. But going big with a cast packed with some of the most successful names in the biz wasn’t enough for director Kyle Marvin who also compiled a list of names like Billy Porter, Harry Hamlin, Retta, Alex Moffat, Sara Gilbert, Sally Kirkland, and even Guy Fieri to fill out the ensemble cast.
Landing only 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics seemed split on the star-packed production but still had plenty of nice things to say about Jane Fonda and her fellow Brady-heads. Released alongside the highly-anticipated return of M. Night Shyamalan in his Knock at the Cabin, 80 for Brady likely took a hit in sales due to the thriller but still managed to rake in $39.7 million against its $28 million budget.
The Jane Fonda-led title was announced shortly after Tom Brady’s initial retirement from football, with the on-the-field legend deciding to dip his toes into the world of feature-length films. Along with a featured appearance, Brady also left his signature on the project as a producer, with the story coming from a real-life group of women in their 80s who are hopelessly devoted to the Super Bowl-winning quarterback. As fans of the ol’ game of pigskin will know, Brady took back his retirement decision only to follow through with it again at the beginning of 2023, which may have thrown a wrench in the plans if Kyle Marvin wasn’t so quick on his feet and able to adapt.
As for the film’s leading ladies, there’s not one in the lineup that hasn’t established herself as an absolute Hollywood legend. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin’s names essentially go hand in hand. From their first appearance together alongside Dolly Parton in the classic feature 9 to 5 to their later-in-life comedic hijinks on Netflix’s hit series Grace and Frankie, the two women have been putting their audiences in stitches for over three decades.
Both passionate about a world beyond their own, the duo have also proven themselves a force to be reckoned with when it comes to advocacy, specifically for women’s health and LGBTQ rights.
Along with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, their co-stars Rita Moreno and Sally Field have also had lengthy and legendary careers under the twinkling lights of Tinseltown. Leaving her mark on the industry through award-winning performances in titles like Norma Rae, Places in the Heart, and, of course, Mrs. Doubtfire, Sally Field’s star power has only continued to rise during her time, bringing audiences to tears and cracking them up in the same hour and a half. As for Rita Moreno, the actress who made her breakthrough performance in West Side Story may be known as an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner to a certain generation, but the upcoming generation will soon know her as Dom Toretto’s (Vin Diesel) grandmother in the soon-to-premiere film, Fast X.
Not only are there already plenty of ways to catch up with these ladies’ careers, as most of them have films and TV shows available on streaming services, but for those who can’t get enough of the dynamic duo, aka Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, they recently put out yet another film titled Moving On. Landing in theaters back in March, with a streaming announcement just over the horizon. With Paramount+’s current luck with 80 for Brady, it’s certainly our hope that the fab four will team back up for more laughs in another feature-length movie sometime soon.
