Chris Hemsworth Is On Fire And Shooting Helicopters Out Of The Sky In Extraction 2 First Trailer
Chris Hemsworth returns as Rake in the first trailer for Netflix's Extraction 2.
Marvel’s Thor may be Chris Hemsworth’s most recognizable role, but the actor has been involved in several other action-packed franchises, including the Star Trek and Men in Black franchises. Now, Hemsworth is returning in arguably his grittiest action role yet. Netflix just dropped the trailer for the action thriller Extraction 2, and it certainly utilizes Hemsworth’s action-star acumen.
Netflix released the Chris Hemsworth-led Extraction 2 trailer earlier today, and the trailer promises an action-packed thriller adventure with some truly intense action scenes. The trailer starts with Chris Hemsworth’s Rake in prison before cutting to what seems like an all-out mass prison brawl, with prisoners duking it out with armed security forces in the middle of a snowy field.
The scene is striking, with visceral camera work and tense audio so that every riot-shield smashing hit lands with a shaking camera and resounds with a spine-tingling THUD. At one point, Chris Hemsworth’s Rake tosses a grenade into the fray, causing a massive, ear-ringing explosion. In another, Hemsworth is hit by a molotov cocktail, and as his arm is still ablaze, he lays the beatdown on his adversaries, delivering his flaming punches to any foe that has the misfortune of crossing his path in true Extraction 2 fashion.
The trailer ends with Chris Hemsworth using a rail gun to shoot down an enemy helicopter, and as it spirals out of the sky and crashes to the ground, it bursts into a ball of flames that almost engulf the screen. The Extraction 2 trailer is certainly an introduction to those unfamiliar with the tone of the Extraction franchise reminding any doubters that Chris Hemsworth is one of the premiere action stars of his time.
Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 2 returns to the story of Tyler Rake, a black market mercenary and former Australian Special Air Service Regiment soldier tasked with extracting individuals from some of the world’s most dangerous situations. Rake returns with another harrowing adventure, as his latest mission entails rescuing the family of a Georgian gangster from the prison where they’re being held. Presumably, this is the prison that features in the battle scene within the trailer.
Extraction 2 releases on Netflix on June 16th, 2023. Director Sam Hargrave returns, with Anthony Russo producing and Joe Russo writing (via IMDb). Chris Hemsworth stars in Extraction 2, with Pirates of the Caribbean actress Golshifteh Farahani reprising her role from the first film, and Daniel Bernhardt featuring in a prominent role.
Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 2 is a sequel and arguably grittier than its predecessor, Extraction, where fans saw Rake embark on a similar operation, rescuing the kidnapped son of an international crime lord. The first movie was released on Netflix on April 24, 2020.
Chris Hemsworth is no stranger to action franchises, and Extraction 2 certainly is not his first foray into the action-adventure genre. Hemsworth is best known for his ongoing role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in 2011’s Thor, and most recently in 2022’s Thor: Love & Thunder. Outside of the MCU, he also featured in 2009’s Star Trek, Snow White and the Huntsman, Men in Black: International, Ghostbusters, and The Cabin in the Woods.
Chris Hemsworth will lead the cast of Extraction 2 through another harrowing mission. Although the concept is fairly straightforward, audiences should be on the edges of their seats because of the gritty directorial style and the over-the-top action sequences.
