The Best Chris Evans Movie Is Getting A Remake With Chris Evans In It
An anime version of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is being made, and it will feature most of the original cast as voice actors, including Chris Evans.
Tune up your guitars and prepare to fight off your exes because the band is getting back together. Sharing a post on Twitter, which you can see below, Edgar Wright gave audiences the news they’d been waiting for, that the original cast members, including Michael Cera, Chris Evans, and Brie Larson, would be returning to the world of Scott Pilgrim in an anime version of the classic film. Netflix will be the landing spot for the project, which hasn’t announced a release date, with Wright sharing in his post that it was “IMMINENT.”
In this day and age, it’s nearly impossible to get all the original cast members to free up time in their schedules and join forces for a reunion of any kind, let alone an entire series. Toss in the fact that the title was fronted by some of the biggest names in the industry, like Chris Evans and Kiernan Culkin, and the return of Scott Pilgrim is really blowing our minds. Also included in the comeback cast will be Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, Aubrey Plaza, Satya Bhabha, Jason Schwartzman, Mae Whitman, Ellen Wong, Johnny Simmons, and Brandon Routh.
In his post, Wright, who directed, co-wrote, and produced the original 2010 feature, wrote that while he’s been pushing to rally support for an “anime adaptation” of the graphic novel-turned-film, this time, it’s actually happening. Promising audiences that “you are going to lose your minds,” the showrunner cited returning talents like Chris Evans and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the reason that he sees this version of Scott Pilgrim being a major success. Also signed on to back the production are Bryan Lee O’Malley and Ben David Grabinski, who first wrote and illustrated the original graphic novels.
The legendary duo will join as showrunners and will also pen the anime adaptation while executive producing alongside Wright.
The original story follows the titular character, Scott, a young man (Cera) who plays guitar in an underground band and meets and falls for a manic-pixie-dream-girl named Ramona (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Unfortunately for Scott, there’s one major hangup – Ramona has seven evil exes that he’ll need to defeat if he has any hopes of capturing her heart. The live-action film featured a slew of colorful and over-the-top moments with Michael Cera’s Scott facing down exes, including Mae Whitman and Chris Evans, quickly making Scott Pilgrim vs. the World a cult-classic film.
One of the greatest things about the storyline is that while it does focus on Scott’s adventure to begin a relationship with Ramona, the supporting characters are also well-thought-out, holding strong personalities of their own. Every member of Scott’s band, Sex Bob-omb, has their own unique character build, while Scott’s ex-girlfriend, Envy Adams (Brie Larson) manages to have a fully formed story by the time she physically makes an appearance towards the end of the film. Each ex also holds a wacky spin with Chris Evans’ actor Lucas Lee facing off against Scott Pilgrim via a skateboarding trick.
As if the world of Scott Pilgrim wasn’t vibrant enough, we’re excited to see what the artists have up their sleeves for bringing the story to anime form. With the graphic novel’s original creators on board, it will be interesting to see how closely they shape actors like Chris Evans and Brie Larson to their original Scott Pilgrim appearances.
