Our Liv Tyler Captain America 4 Exclusive Confirmed By The Hollywood Reporter
The Hollywood Reporter just confirmed what we told you months ago - that Liv Tyler will be appearing in Captain America: New World Order.
Back in October we told you Liv Tyler was in talks to return to Marvel for Captain America: New World Order. Now The Hollywood Reporter has caught up to us and confirmed what we already knew. And with that, an upcoming Marvel movie that was already pretty Hulky just got a whole lot Hulkier.
Liv Tyler, until she returns in the Captain America sequel, will have one of the longest breaks from her role in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She played Betty Ross in the second MCU film, 2008’s Incredible Hulk, but hasn’t appeared in the narrative since. Another actor who played an important role in the film — Tim Blake Nelson, who plays Dr. Samuel Sterns aka The Leader — will likewise make his Marvel return in Captain America: New World Order.
The other character who originated in Incredible Hulk who will come back for the next Captain America feature is Thaddeus Ross. Originally played by the late William Hurt, “Thunderbolt” Ross will be played by Harrison Ford this time around.
Liv Tyler’s Marvel comeback in Captain America: New World Order marks the last of the major Incredible Hulk roles to make a return to the MCU. Not counting Bruce Banner himself, the first was Thaddeus Ross who returned as the new Secretary of State in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. Next came the villain of Incredible Hulk — Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky, aka the Abomination — first in 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and a much larger role in Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
With Ford’s Thaddeus Ross, Tim Blake Nelson as Sterns, and now Liv Tyler appearing in the next Captain America movie, it’s difficult to not speculate that Mark Ruffalo could likewise be making an appearance. We now not only have two characters who, in the source material, are major Hulk antagonists, but we have his most consistent love interest. How could you have a movie with all these characters and not include the hero they’re most closely associated with?
It’s also seeming more likely with Liv Tyler’s confirmed return to Captain America: New World Order that the film either will itself be, or could be leading up to, some kind of as of yet unconfirmed World War Hulk film. Along with Tim Blake Nelson’s Samuel Sterns presumably becoming the gamma-powered genius The Leader, in the comics Thaddeus Ross eventually becomes the Red Hulk, and for a time, his daughter was Red She-Hulk. Arguably, to have all these characters in the next Captain America movie and not have have at least one of the Ross family Hulk-out seems like a cruel tease.
