Mila Kunis Trends After Her Nipples Are Used As An Excuse For A Racial Slur
The Greg Hill Show producer referred to Mina Kimes as one of his favorite "nips" and then claimed he was intending to refer to Mila Kunis's nipples.
Film actress Mila Kunis is trending on Twitter in reaction to a bizarre incident in which a talk radio producer used a racial slur to refer to business/sports journalist and ESPN writer Mina Kimes on air and then claimed he was attempting to reference the Luckiest Girl Alive star’s nipples. Per Deadspin, The Greg Hill Show (which airs on WEEI Radio) producer Chris Curtis and Greg Hill were responding to a question about their favorite hard alcohol brands, which were being referred to as “nips,” which in context are mini-sized bottles of liquor. However, the word is also a derogatory slur for people of Japanese descent and more broadly used for Asian people in general; Kimes is of Korean descent.
During the course of the conversation, Greg Hill, Chris Curtis, and producer Courtney Cox (no relation to actress Courteney Cox) referenced several different varieties of spirits, including the cinnamon-flavored Canadian whiskey Fireball. In what appears to have been an attempt at a joke, however, Curtis referred to Mina Kimes as one of his favorites of the specific word. It was immediately taken as wordplay to conflate the word “nip” with a famous person of Asian descent, which is pretty logical.
However, Curtis attempted to do damage control about the incident by claiming he was not referring to Mina Kimes, but actually meant to say Mila Kunis, the star of That ‘70s Show and recent guest star on the follow-up series That ‘90s Show. Presumably, Curtis was trying to say that while discussing his favorite types of miniature bottles of alcohol, he was making a reference to Mila Kunis’ nipples being some of his favorite in the world. Unsurprisingly, the Internet has a lot of thoughts about both his initial statement about Mina Kimes and his follow-up about Mila Kunis.
The majority of them seem, at least at the moment, to not believe Curtis’s assertion about his original intent.
The sincerity of Chris Curtis’s claim that he did not mean to use a racial slur against Mina Kimes and was instead referring to the nipples of Mila Kunis is a little up for debate, given that the actress is not known for her on-screen nudity or for having posed naked in any known capacity. It is possible that he is referring to a plot point in the 2008 comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall in which a photo of Mila Kunis’s character exposing her breasts is seen several times; however, the picture was reportedly produced via digital effects and did not actually involve nudity.
Unsurprisingly, WEEI has suspended Chris Curtis for a week for his on-air use of a known racial slur, regardless of his claim that he meant merely to make a joke about the anatomy of Mila Kunis. The Ukrainian-born actress has not yet made a public statement about the incident, though many people on Twitter certainly have. For her part, Mina Kimes reportedly briefly changed her Twitter icon to a picture of Mila Kunis as a reference to the incident, though she has since changed it back.
