Harry Potter Star Cast In The Remake Of A Classic 70s Action-Thriller
Eddie Redmayne will play the titular character in the series remake of the classic film The Day of the Jackal.
Harry Potter spin-off star Eddie Redmayne will lead the cast of the upcoming Peacock series, The Day of the Jackal. The Oscar-winning actor will portray the Jackal, who is hired to murder French President Charles de Gaulle. The series is based on the 1971 novel by Frederick Forsyth.
However, the show will occur amid the current geo-political landscape, making it a more contemporary story.
According to Variety, the series will examine the lead character more closely while remaining faithful to the source material. Ronan Bennett will tackle duties as showrunner while also serving as head writer. Brian Kirk, of Game of Thrones fame, will direct the Eddie Redmayne-led series.
The project is produced by Universal International Studios’ Carnival Films.
The Day of the Jackal will also draw inspiration from the 1973 film adaptation of the Forsyth novel directed by Fred Zinnemann. The movie was praised for its gripping storyline, expert direction, and powerful performances by its cast. Like the Eddie Redmayne series, the plot centered on a professional assassin called the Jackal, who is hired to assassinate French President Charles de Gaulle.
Portrayed by Edward Fox in the original, The Jackal is a highly skilled and elusive killer who meticulously plans his attack. Using a variety of false identities, disguises, and weapons, he manages to stay one step ahead of the authorities. As he sets about his deadly mission, police and intelligence agencies scramble to stop him, using all their resources to prevent the assassination.
Led by Eddie Redmayne, The Day of the Jackal will air on Peacock in the United States. Folks in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria can watch the series on Sky, while NBCUniversal Global Distribution will handle sales of the series in other territories.
