The Mandalorian Introduces The Villains For Another Upcoming Star Wars Show
According to an unconfirmed report, the pirates from the Season 3 premiere of The Mandalorian will reappear as antagonists in Skeleton Crew.
The Mandalorian continues to be one of the most popular and most highly-praised series in the extended Star Wars universe. As such, it only makes sense that Disney would use it as a platform to introduce new characters and concepts that will be explored in other series. According to the Star Wars insider website Bespin Bulletin, the pirates who attack a school in the Season 3 premiere of The Mandalorian will likely be the same pirates Jude Law has to deal with in Skeleton Crew.
While this rumor hasn’t been confirmed by inside sources, Bespin Bulletin points out that the plot of Skeleton Crew will feature pirates, and it revolves around a teacher and his students who must find their way home after getting lost in the galaxy. The presence of pirates fighting against a school, the site argues, is too much of a similarity to wave away as a mere coincidence.
The Mandalorian has provided brief glimpses into other upcoming series well before this rumored Skeleton Crew crossover. Most notably, Season 2 of The Mandalorian gave us the first look at a live-action version of Anakin Skywalker‘s former apprentice, Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka, of course, will be the lead character in the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka.
While it’s not clear whether any characters from The Mandalorian will show up in Skeleton Crew, it wouldn’t be the first time that someone from Pedro Pascals show showed up in another Star Wars series. Mando himself was a major presence in the 2022 series The Book of Boba Fett, appearing in the final three episodes. The series finale involved both he and Boba Fett fighting side by side in a spectacular battle to defend a town against a rival crime syndicate.
Another element tying The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian is Luke Skywalker, who may very well show up in other future series, such as Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew. Skywalker showed up at the end of The Mandalorian‘s second season to retrieve Grogu (popularly known as Baby Yoda) and returns toward the end of The Book of Boba Fett to reunite the child with his former protector. While further appearances by Skywalker are by no means certain, his usefulness as a unifying force between the Disney+ series cannot be ignored.
Unfortunately for Disney, not all of its Star Wars shows have had as warm of a reception as The Mandalorian, so there’s no guarantee that Skeleton Crew will live up to that standard of quality, crossover or not. For example, The Book of Boba Fett had mediocre reviews, and while the reaction to Obi-Wan Kenobi was largely positive, its ratings haven’t quite reached the level of The Mandalorian. High praise doesn’t necessarily mean success either, since the widely-lauded Andor reportedly didn’t gain as much of an audience as Disney had hoped.
