Marvel Confirms When And Where Kang The Conqueror Will Return
Kang the Conqueror will return in Loki Season 2.
Marvel Studios has confirmed that Kang the Conqueror will next appear in Loki Season 2, presumably as an antagonist to Tom Hiddleston’s Asgardian trickster god. According to an article on Marvel.com, it has been confirmed that Jonathan Majors’ multiversal villain is returning in some form in the second season of the critically acclaimed Disney+ show. While his exact role is uncertain at this time, it probably does not mean good things for Loki in the near future (or past, depending on time travel shenanigans).
SPOILERS FOR ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA BELOW
Marvel’s most recent film Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania hinted that Kang might be showing up in Loki’s orbit sometime soon with a post-credits scene that saw the Frost Giant King/Thor’s adoptive brother and the Time Variance Authority officer Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) encountering some version of the villain. In a post-credits scene, Loki and Mobius appeared to be sometime in the 1900s, observing a man named Victor Timely (also Jonathan Majors) addressing a crowd, and reacting with deep levels of apprehension.
Victor Timely is one of Marvel Comics’ many variants of the time-and-reality traveling Kang the Conqueror, one that embeds himself in the early 20th century and becomes an industrialist competitor to the likes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. That will likely be at least partly what this variant of the character is based on, though the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of events and people tend to be a little skewed from the comics versions.
While Marvel Studios has confirmed that Loki Season 2 will be the next time we see some variant of Kang the Conqueror, it has not yet confirmed the show’s premiere date. The new season of the show is expected to air sometime in 2023, with some sources saying it will likely appear on Disney+ sometime in the summer. We already know that the new season will feature an appearance from one of the supposedly deceased Timekeepers, so what is one more godlike, time-traveling figure in the mix?
While Marvel has said Kang’s next appearance will be in Loki Season 2, it will not be anywhere close to the last. The villain has been set up as the new Big Bad of the MCU, following up on Josh Brolin’s Thanos as the prime antagonist to the entirety of the rest of the universe. It appears the current Phase Five of the MCU is setting the table for the events of Six, which will culminate in the crossover Avengers movies The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars.
The mid-credits scene of Marvel’s Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania also revealed a council of Kang variants deciding to take action against the universe that could defeat one of their own, so it is safe to assume our heroes will be facing off against a bunch of them soon. While we are sure that Loki and Mobius will have to reckon with Victor Timely soon, it won’t be the last Kang they see by any measure.
