Keanu Reeves Wants John Wick To Crossover With Denzel Washington’s Best Franchise
Keanu Reeves wants John Wick to face off against Denzel Washington's Equalizer.
Keanu Reeves took to Reddit yesterday for one of the site’s famous “Ask Me Anything” interviews. During the AMA one Redditor asked The Matrix Star if he had ever been approached to do a John Wick crossover with competing action franchise, The Equalizer. The Matrix star responded by saying, “…Ha…no…that would be crazy. Crazy good!”
The actor was on Reddit to promote the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4. The sequel follows Keanu Reeves as the titular action hero as he takes on The High Table following the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. The movie, directed once again by Chad Stahelski, also stars Lawrence Fishburne and Ian McShane.
The next chapter of Denzel Washington’s Equalizer franchise is also set to come out this year. The production, simply titled The Equalizer 3, is keeping plot details tightly under wraps for now. It’s safe to say, judging by the success of the first two Equalizer films, that Denzel’s Robert McCall will survive whatever director Antoine Fuqua puts the character through, making a John Wick Meets The Equalizer movie a definite possibility.
The real question, of course, is would the spin-off be a team-up or a showdown between the two characters? Given the history of crossover movies, the two gunmen would most likely fight at first due to some kind of misunderstanding before joining forces to take on a mutual antagonist. Even if they eventually work together, that first fight between Keanu Reeves and Denzel Washington would be epic.
Keanu Reeves appears to be committed to the John Wick character for the foreseeable future. Not only is Reeves reprising his role in John Wick 4 later this month, but the actor has also been confirmed to be playing Wick in the upcoming spinoff Ballerina starring Ana de Armas. After that, Keanu will return in a fifth John Wick film that’s already in the works.
How much longer Denzel Washington is willing to play his Equalizer character Robert McCall is much less certain. Neither Antoine Fuqua nor Washington has confirmed if there will be an Equalizer 4. Of course, even if The Equalizer 3 ends up being the last movie in the Equalizer franchise, that doesn’t mean that the character couldn’t come out of retirement like John Wick himself. Hopefully, no dogs will have to die for it to happen.
Even if Washington chooses to “retire” the character, the proposition of pitting McCall against Keanu Reeves as Wick might prove too juicy for the Training Day star to turn down. It wouldn’t be the first time a team-up has brought an actor back to a role they’ve quit, after all. The upcoming Deadpool 3 managed to bring Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine out of mothballs, much to fan surprise and applause.
Could a John Wick V The Equalizer: Dawn of Equalization do the same for Denzel? While this may seem like a lot of speculation based on one small Reddit interaction, movies have come from less in the age of social media. If Keanu Reeves does decide to make a WVE: Wick vs. Equalizer, it won’t matter which character triumphs. The real winners will be the fans.
