Damian Lewis Returning To His Hit Show After Departing
Damian Lewis is returning to Showtime's Billions as Bobby Axelrod for the upcoming fifth season.
Billions is returning for its seventh season, and Damian Lewis will be returning with it. Deadline reported that Lewis, who left the show after five seasons, is set to appear in six of the 12 upcoming episodes. The series’ seventh season also stars Paul Giamatti, Maggie Siff, Corey Stoll, David Costabile, Asia Kate Dillon, Condola Rashad, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sakina Jaffrey, and Daniel Breaker.
Damian Lewis left the series following season 5 after the tragic passing of his wife, Helen McCrory. Lewis plays Bobby Axelrod, who was last seen at the end of Season 5, losing a portion of his fortune but escaping the legal ramifications of his actions by settling down in Switzerland. It will be interesting to see how they bring his character back into the fold.
Billions was created by Andrew Ross Sorkin, Brian Koppelman, and David Levien. Koppelman, Livien, and Beth Schacter serve as showrunners and executive producers. At this point, it’s unclear if Damian Lewis will only be returning for the seventh season or if we can expect to see more of his character in the future.
Perhaps Damian Lewis could pop up in one of the four upcoming Billions spin-offs reported to be in the works at Showtime. These spin-offs include a series set in Miami, a series set in London, a series titled Millions about up-and-coming financiers, and a series titled Trillions about the ultra-rich. Koppelman and Levien recently extended their deal with Showtime and would be executive producing and creating the shows.
Whether we see Damian Lewis in any upcoming Billions offshoots or not, we know we’ll see him in the seventh season of the mothership series. Lewis has been pretty sporadic with his projects lately, so seeing him in any projects would be good news. The Band of Brothers and Homeland star only appeared in one TV mini-series in 2022, and his last project before that was the fifth season of Billions.
If you want to see Damian Lewis in something while you wait for the upcoming season of Billions, you can check out his performance in 2022’s A Spy Among Friends. The series follows M16 intelligence officer Nicholas Elliott (Lewis), who discovers his friend and colleague Kim Philby (Guy Pearce) has defected to the KGB. The series also stars Anna Maxwell Martin, Adrian Edmondson, Stephen Kunken, Nicholas Rowe, Edward Baker-Duly, Anastasia Hille, and Radoslaw Kaim.
The last time we saw Damian Lewis in a film was Dream Horse, which followed a Welsh bartender (Toni Colette) as she convinces her neighbors to contribute funds to raise a racehorse named Dream. Before that, Lewis briefly played Steve McQueen in Quinten Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. You can check out Dream Horse on Hulu and watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on Starz.
As for when you can see Damian Lewis in Showtime’s Billions Season 7, we’ll have to wait for an official release date. The series is supposed to return in early 2023, so it shouldn’t be long before we find out more. Stay tuned, and we’ll update you once there’s news on its return.
