Avengers Star Wants To Jump Over To Star Wars To Be In The Mandalorian
Anthony Mackie wants to appear in The Mandalorian, even if just for one scene.
Marvel Cinematic Universe star Anthony Mackie wants to appear on the popular Star Wars show The Mandalorian, even if just for a cameo. In a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, the Captain America: New World Order actor stated of the Disney+ series “I’m trying to get one of those roles in the background, where they’re doing the thing, and I take off my helmet, and go, ‘That was a long flight.’ That’s it.’”
It seems that as a lifelong fan of the Star Wars franchise, Anthony Mackie is eager to get on The Mandalorian, going on to say that “all I want is one scene. I just want everybody to know that I was one of them.” According to the interview, Mackie used to go by the nickname Lando as a child (and it also seems like he was the one who came up with the name) as a reference to Billy Dee Williams’ famously dynamic character.
It also seems like a pretty ideal time for Anthony Mackie to get into the Star Wars universe, whether in The Mandalorian or one of the many other shows headed to Disney+. Mackie has increasingly become an important part of the Walt Disney Company’s other major franchise, Marvel, taking over the role of Captain America from Chris Evans (at least for the moment) and being scheduled to appear in a whole bunch of upcoming MCU movies. If there were ever a time that Anthony Mackie could use his clout for a quick cameo in The Mandalorian, it would be now.
Currently, Anthony Mackie is set to reprise the role of Sam Wilson, former Falcon and current Cap, in the upcoming fourth Captain America movie alongside Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross and Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader. It has been rumored that Anthony Mackie’s former The Falcon and the Winter Soldier co-star Sebastian Stan (who was once rumored to appear in The Mandalorian himself) might appear in the movie. This will also be the first appearance of Tim Blake Nelson in the MCU since The Incredible Hulk, a movie whose canonicity has always been a little bit vague.
In addition to Captain America: New World Order, Anthony Mackie has been confirmed to be part of the massive two-part Marvel crossover event movies Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2024 and 2025. As such, he might be pretty busy for a while, especially considering his IMDb lists him as starring in nine different non-Marvel movies in the near future.
Most recently, the actor appeared in the hit Netflix film We Have a Ghost alongside fellow Marvel star David Harbour. It appears that Anthony Mackie really, really loves to work, and how much would it cost Lucasfilm to at least let him film a single scene for The Mandalorian? Maybe if he can’t do that, Disney can find a way for him to appear in Ahsoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, The Acolyte, or any of the Star Wars shows coming up soon.
