Wayne’s World 3 Finally Happening?
A social media post by Dana Carvey has some hoping that Wayne's World 3 may be in the works.
WE’RE NOT WORTHY!!! If you are a millennial (or, as Iliza Shlesinger calls it, an elder millennial), you remember Dana Carvey and Mike Myers keeping audiences rolling first on Saturday Night Live and then in two films. Now thanks to an Instagram post from the former, fans may be lucky enough to be looking at the possibility that we may be getting Wayne’s World 3 30 years after the release of the original.
As you can see from Dana Carvey’s post, the image is of what is presumably him in costume as Garth, the long, blond-haired compatriot of Mike Myer’s Wayne. He is standing at an easel with a painting of Wayne lying on the couch, posed in a similar way that Kate Winslet did in Titanic. The setting itself is an even bigger giveaway, as there are few more iconic basement settings than the one from Wayne’s World, and it doesn’t look like it has changed much for Wayne’s World 3.
This Instagram post doesn’t come out of the blue, as the pair reunited for at the MTV Music Awards, a Saturday Night Live Skit, and the Super Bowl, sparking a call for the actors to jump on board with a third movie. While neither of the actors has said anything about not doing another movie, they haven’t seemed too busy. In any case, with Top Gun: Maverick, Hocus Pocus 2, and other legacy sequels doing well, the iron seems to be the perfect temperature for striking.
Since leaving the basement, Mike Myers’ career took off like a rocket ship in the 90s and early 00s as he headlined and anchored two massively successful franchises. First, he got in on the very end of the parody trend with his iconic trilogy of movies starring the international man of mystery, Austin Powers. He then took that same star power to the animated world and portrayed the titular ogre from one of Dreamwork Pictures’ most significant successes, Shrek, a role he took over following the death of fellow SNL alum Chris Farley.
Wayne’s World 3 would be a bigger deal for Dana Carvey, as his career didn’t go nearly as far as his co-star’s following the success of the original two. His movie career consisted of appearances in films like Clean Slate, Trapped in Paradise, Little Nicky, and the leading role in Master of Disguise. With the latter being one of the lowest-rated comedies of all time (scoring a rock-bottom 1% on Rotten Tomatoes), Carvey elected to step away from the limelight to raise his family.
While fans are salivating over the prospect of seeing the pair reunite for Wayne’s World 3, there is no confirmation that it could actually happen, or that this post is anything more than a nostalgic image. But the comments could convince the studio that now is the time, with even Josh Gad (Frozen and Beauty and the Beast) jumping on board with hopes of a third. Real or not, most fans just have one thing to say in response to this image.
“Party on, Wayne.”
“Party on, Garth.”
