Star Wars’ Worst Series Gets A Season 2?
An insider says they have seen sets and crew working on what appears to be The Book of Boba Fett Season 2.
According to MakingStarWars.net, Disney+’s poorly received The Book of Boba Fett could be getting a Season 2. Editor-in-Chief Jason Ward writes that he has “recently spoken to sources around Southern California who are working on production elements specifically tied to the character of Boba Fett himself.”
These sources believe that the work they are doing is for Boba Fett Season 2, but this is just a rumor. It would also be odd, seeing as most of the Star Wars-related crew members are working on The Mandalorian’s fourth season, which is expected to officially start filming in October 2023. This season has already been written, as there is a writer’s strike about to happen in Hollywood, and the production heads wanted to get ahead of this and have their season already scripted when it does.
So, if these people are not working on The Mandalorian, what exactly are they working on? Ward believes that it must be Boba Fett Season 2 because he can see that two big projects appear to be underway simultaneously. He says that he has seen “Moff Gideon’s new Mando armor is being remade, Gideon’s new Imperial Troopers, and Mando’s new jetpack,” as well as “new Boba Fett props,” but he is certain that these are coming out of two distinct productions, not just The Mandalorian.
Word around the studio is that Dave Filoni has been put in charge of a new project, and that “that project is not the second season of Star Wars: Ahsoka.” So, does this mean that it’s Boba Fett Season 2? Possibly. Or it could be a rumored crossover event that brings together all the shows in the so-called “Mando era.”
Ward is quick to emphasize that none of these rumors are facts and that he actually has no idea whether The Book of Boba Fett will have a Season 2 or if it does, if they are working on it now. Apparently, hardly anyone knows; if they do know, they’re not talking about it.
But Ward does know that Boba Fett will be returning in some capacity to the Star Wars universe this year; that much is certain. Whether it will be in a Season 2 of the show is the question mark.
The Book of Boba Fett did not receive great reviews from fans or critics, so it would be a bit surprising if it does return for Season 2. Top critics on RottenTomatoes refer to it as a “wilted mess” and “a series of compounding mistakes,” while some even claim that it is so bad that it could ruin Disney+’s strategy to release more Star Wars series spin-offs in the future.
Audiences weren’t fans of the show either, with one simply calling it “meh.” Many viewers complain that it is too slow and that they got bored before finishing the first episode. Those that hung on until at least the fifth were still waiting for something to make it worthwhile, but it is clear that not many of them would be excited about a Boba Fett Season 2.
So, in the end, is Boba Fett Season 2 happening? We don’t know. Should a Boba Fett Season 2 be happening? We don’t know that either, but perhaps that’s something that Disney executives should ask themselves.
