Jessica Jones Cast Teases MCU Return?
Krysten Ritter shared pictures of herself with her Defender's co-star Mike Colter, leaving fans hopeful this is a sign of an impending Jessica Jones return.
Former and perhaps future Marvel stars Mike Colter and Krysten Ritter have been seen together in a series of social media posts, causing many Marvel fans to speculate a Jessica Jones and Luke Cage return in the MCU. With canonized appearances within the MCU from Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as Daredevil and The Kingpin, respectively, it appears that Kevin Feige has acknowledged the Netflix Marvel series and its characters. According to a write-up in Screenrant, an upcoming Jessica Jones appearance in the MCU may be just around the corner.
Long before the days of Charlie Cox appearing as Peter Parker’s faithful attorney at law in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Netflix was given the rights to produce original programming for Marvel’s Defenders. The Netflix programs, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Punisher, were all carefully crafted to fit within the official MCU canon without ever properly crossing over a la Disney+ series such as WandaVision or Loki. Now that the creation of Disney+ has incentivized Disney to reclaim the streaming rights for these characters, many fans are awaiting characters such as Jessica Jones and Luke Cage to return in the upcoming series Echo.
According to insider speculation, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is set to appear in Echo, where he is allegedly searching for and attempting to reunite several other Defenders crew members. If Jessica Jones does return in the series, it will mark her first on-screen appearance since the conclusion of 2017’s The Defenders. Krysten Ritter has long teased an MCU return on social media, posting images of her performing her superhero workout routine in Daredevil gear, further stoking fan speculation that she’ll reprise the role.
Now the Breaking Bad actress has shared images alongside her Defenders co-star, Plane‘s Mike Colter, leaving fans foaming at the mouth with theories on how both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage could return. One post shared by Ritter even affectionately refers to her co-star as “Power Man,” a known moniker of Luke Cage in the comics. In addition to the upcoming Echo series, Charlie Cox is confirmed to lead a new Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, which could feature Ritter, Colter, and the rest of the Defenders crew regularly, provided they aren’t each showered with their own series.
Adding The Defenders to the Marvel roster would certainly be helpful, as Jonathan Majors’ Kang The Conqueror is shaping up to be an unstoppable force, and the few remaining Avengers will need all the help they can get. With his most recent appearance in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Majors’ has cemented Kang as the big bad for the next phase of Marvel films and shows, extending into 2025’s Avengers: Kang Dynasty and 2026’s Avengers: Secret Wars. A Jessica Jones return may not be enough on its own to turn the tide of battle against He Who Remains, but the additional firepower will certainly be a welcome addition to the roster.
