Billionaires Now Want To Geoengineer The Planet
Billionaire George Soros details his plans to geoengineer the planet to combat climate change.
George Soros wants to fight climate change with more climate change. According to Futurism, the Fox News punching bag is throwing his considerable wealth behind solar geoengineering–an experimental technology that could re-freeze melting ice caps. Soros is hoping scientists can geoengineer the planet away from global warming and an eventual climate apocalypse.
The entry for geoengineering on Britannica defines it as “the large-scale manipulation of a specific process central to controlling Earth’s climate for the purpose of obtaining a specific benefit.” In this case, that benefit would be reversing the decades of harm done to the planet by pollution and other man-made hazards. Soros is banking on geoengineering as the medicine our sick planet needs to heal.
There are many methods that scientists have proposed for geoengineering the planet. George Soros is interested in one, in particular, replicating the albedo effect. The albedo effect is essentially how much the ice on Earth reflects the sun’s radiation rather than absorbing it.
The billionaire philanthropist has stated that the Arctic Ocean “used to be covered by pristine snow and ice that reflected the sun” but now laments that “rising global temperatures are such that the Greenland ice sheet has begun to melt.” Soros wants to cool said ice sheet by geoengineering “white clouds” above the planet that will reflect or absorb some of the Sun’s rays.
This geoengineering process is known as cloud whitening and relies upon large spraying devices being set up all over the planet and aboard ocean-going vessels. The devices would shoot a seawater mist full of dissolved salt up roughly 1,000 feet into the air. The seawater part would evaporate, hopefully leaving behind highly reflective salt crystals to bounce the sun’s rays back at it.
Unfortunately, the “I’m rubber, you’re glue” approach and all the other methods of geoengineering the planet are largely untested. While everything works theoretically on paper, as with any scientific endeavor, it’s impossible to know the real-world effects and consequences of geoengineering until we actually try it.
Some may wonder if the potential risks of geoengineering the planet are worth taking versus what will happen if we don’t. George Soros is convinced we should try. Soros has bluntly stated his thoughts on our current climate situation: “The message is clear: human interference has destroyed a previously stable system.”
The real challenge will be getting anyone else with the financial or political clout to join Soros on his mission to geoengineer the planet. One would think the simple logic of “If all the customers are dead, there’s no one left to sell to” would be enough to get the one percent to go along with George’s plan but profit motives often focus on the present rather than the future.
Still, Soros is hoping that his fellow billionaires and captains of industry will join him in his noble crusade. In his remarks at the recent Munich Security Conference, he urged his peers to reorient the globe’s financial institutions–the World Bank included–to focus more on climate change.
Hopefully, it will work, and the geoengineering of planet Earth will happen sooner rather than later. We have to do something before it’s too late to do anything, or else we will really have to kick-start plans to colonize Mars.
