Pitch Perfect Star Says Studio Completely Controlled Her Body
Rebel Wilson said her contracts for the Pitch Perfect movies stipulated she wasn't allowed to lose more than 10 pounds.
Between 2012 and 2017, Rebel Wilson played Fat Amy in all three Pitch Perfect films, and now the actress says her contract obligated to keep the “fat” as much as possible. Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast (via Insider), the Jojo Rabbit star revealed she was contractually required to neither lose nor gain more than 10 pounds while making the films. She said while she enjoyed appearing in the films, sticking to her contract kept her from making lifestyle changes she wanted for both professional and personal reasons.
“I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight, because I was in the contract for that movie. You can’t lose, I think it’s not more than 10 pounds, or gain more than 10 pounds. Yeah, you have to kind of stay at the weight. It’s in your contract.”

From how Rebel Wilson describes it, calling these restrictions on her weight a double-edged sword wouldn’t really cover it. She says one of the biggest reasons she wanted to lose weight was to increase her chances of having children before she turned 40 (she’s now 42), and a fertility doctor assured her that her chances would be much better if she changed her diet.
At the same time, Wilson wanted to lose weight to open up a wider variety of roles:
“I was stereotyped in playing that fat, funny friend, which is so hard because I love those roles… I love those characters. But then I did want to do more things, and I felt like being the bigger girl you’re just more pigeonholed.”

With the Pitch Perfect trilogy in her rearview mirror, Wilson has since lost close to 80 pounds. Insider reports that the actress has used a combination of a high protein diet, portion control, and the incorporation of more nutritious food into her diet in order to take off the pounds. The actress says she refuses to restrict herself and that her new mantra is “Nothing is forbidden.”
“I’m just trying to go for overall balance, overall healthy balance. I have this state of being, which is not my quote, but I go, ‘Nothing is forbidden.’ We’ll be like, ‘Should we get In-N-Out burger?’ And I’m like, ‘Nothing is forbidden.’ I can go there, I just might eat half of what I used to eat before.”

Rebel Wilson’s new lifestyle has apparently not only lost her the pounds, but helped to gain her the wider variety of roles she’s been looking for, though like the Pitch Perfect films, most of her upcoming projects are musical comedies. She’ll soon star alongside Leslie Mann (Knocked Up) in Rocking the Boat which will follow four old high school friends when they follow the reunion tour of their favorite boy band.
Rebel Wilson will also be appearing as Lady Capulet the upcoming Verona — part of a trilogy of musicals based on the real life events that inspired Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet. Wilson will be joined by such stars as Jason Isaacs (The Patriot) and Derek Jacobi (Gladiator).
