Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman Teaming Up With Evangeline Lilly As The Wasp?
Gal Gadot and Evangeline Lilly both expressed desire to work together as Wonder Woman and Wasp respectively after the latter's appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Ever since James Gunn took over the DC Universe films, the fate of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman has been up in the air. However, of all the character’s possible fates, nobody would have expected that she’d team up with Evangeline Lily’s The Wasp. However, a tweet from Gal Gadot in response to Evangeline Lily’s appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show has made that strange possibility seem a little more plausible.
On the show, Evangeline Lily said that even though she’s usually “really down on” DC, she’d love to do a crossover with Wonder Woman. Gal Gadot retweeted a clip of this from the official Kelly Clarkson Twitter account, telling Evangeline Lily “Let’s do it.”
Of course, the actual logistics of getting the two characters in the same movie together would be hard to navigate. No matter how badly Gal Gadot and Evangeline Lily want a crossover to happen, it won’t make the rights issues go away. Both Disney and HBO Discovery would have to work out how the money would be split, and the rival companies are unlikely to find agreeable terms.
Marvel has been able to navigate similar rights issues for its films, however, as evidenced by the fact that Spider-Man has shown up in so many MCU films. While Spider-Man is a Marvel character, Sony bought the film rights to Spider-Man in 1999 and has kept them ever since. If Disney and Sony can work out a deal, it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility that Gal Gadot and Evangeline Lily could live to see a Marvel/DC movie happen.
While there has never been a live-action or animated Marvel/DC crossover, the two competing comic franchises have managed to occasionally play nice together. There have been dozens of comic books that featured both Marvel and DC characters, ranging from Batman teaming up with Daredevil to Spiderman fighting against Superman. However, if Gal Gadot and Evangeline Lily team up, it’d be the first time that Wonder Woman found herself allied with The Wasp.
Gal Gadot and Evangeline Lily’s willingness to team up would make for an interesting dynamic, seeing that Lily herself was offered the role of Wonder Woman by Joss Whedon. While that film never came to fruition, there’s an alternate timeline out there where Lily had the opportunity to be one of the many women speaking out against Whedon as his horrible on-set behavior came to light.
But while Gal Gadot eventually took the Wonder Woman role, that doesn’t mean Evangeline Lily hasn’t had her own experiences with DC properties. Early in her career, Lily had a role in the hit Superman-themed teen drama Smallville. While her part was small (and not even named), this means that she and fellow Ant-Man actress Michelle Pfeiffer have been on both sides of the Marvel/DC divide.
The Gal Gadot/Evangeline Lily team-up may never actually come to be, but comic fans will eternally hold out hope for the day when popular characters from both competing franchises will appear together on the silver screen.
