Dove Cameron stuns in a powder blue low-cut gown in a new Instagram photo collection.
Dove Cameron is looking like a princess in her recent Instagram post. She wears a long, powder blue dress that accentuates her curves and flows down into a long, flowing skirt as she stands on the set of her latest music video with Khalid. She tags him in a caption that reads “a love song for you. tonight at midnight.”
The post has racked up over 1.7 million likes in the five days it has been live with commenters expressing how obsessed they are over her beautiful, silky dress and her long, dark, wavy hair. Dove Cameron also has icy-looking blue eyeshadow to match, and her long fingernails and tattoos are on full display in the first of several images on the post.
Casual fans of Dove Cameron may be asking if this hot brunette is really the same platinum blonde Dove Cameron they know from hit Disney Channel shows and movies like Liv and Maddie and Descendants, but true fans will know that the actress/singer changed her hair color around the end of 2021.
“I genuinely felt like dyeing my hair was a total identity shift for me,” Dove Cameron told E! News on the red carpet for the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. She also said that she has a lot of “emotional pain” that stems from being blonde, which proves that, in spite of the old adage, maybe blondes don’t have more fun after all. In fact, with dark hair: “I feel like I have more fun now and I feel more in touch with myself.”
In June of 2022, Dove Cameron also came out as queer, something which may have contributed to her feeling that she was always putting on an act instead of being who she really was. She said that wearing her hair blonde made her feel like she was pretending to be someone else, but that when she decided to dye it darker, it was a “reclamation,” and a way to be her true self instead of the person that she felt others expected her to be.
The singer earned the Best New Artist award for songs like “Boyfriend” and “Breakfast,” but in actuality, Dove Cameron isn’t new – she has been an accomplished singer for years. In Descendants, a series of films in which she plays Mal, the daughter of the wicked Maleficent of Sleeping Beauty fame, she showed off her pipes with numerous catchy songs that kept kids bopping through two more sequels and numerous animated shorts and specials.
Now, though, Dove Cameron is branching out and singing songs that are a bit more “adult” in nature. “Boyfriend,” for instance, is about the narrator attempting to lead another woman astray by assuring her “I could be a better boyfriend than him/I could do the shit that he never did.” She goes on to say cheekily: “I could be such a gentleman/Plus all my clothes would fit.”
Dove Cameron also made waves when she remade her music video for “Breakfast” after hearing about the overturning of Roe V. Wade in 2022. The song had already been viewed as an anthem for female independence and autonomy, but a reworking of the video made it a more intense statement about the confines of traditional gender roles and who should be able to make big decisions about women’s bodies (hint: it’s the women themselves). The political aspect of the video made headlines, bringing her into the spotlight even more.
So, it seems that Dove Cameron really did take back her power by becoming a brunette, and now she’s using that power to take over the (music) world!
