Yellowstone Fans Are Furious At The Actor Chosen To Replace Kevin Costner
Fans on Twitter have let it be known that they are furious that Kevin Costner is being replaced by Matthew McConaughey for Yellowstone.
Yellowstone is one of the most popular shows on TV, and it might be coming to an abrupt end due to a conflict between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan. The reports say that although Costner may be moving on, the show would continue in a new form with Matthew McConaughey taking over. Fans of the show reacted on social media, and the reactions are pretty negative for the most part:
The above user explained that they love Yellowstone because of the characters, with Kevin Costner being one of the most important characters as the lead. They clearly don’t want McConaughey to replace him. With that being said, it’s unclear if McConaughey will be playing a new character or if he’ll literally be replacing Costner as John Dutton.
The above user pointed out that although there might not be the Kevin Costner-led version of Yellowstone in the future, there are still plenty of spin-offs to look forward to. Although the prequel series 1883 has run its course, there will be a second season of 1923 to finish that story. There are also upcoming spin-offs focusing on the ranch in the 1940s and the 1960s, along with the Bass Reeves and 6666 shows.
Even Jimmy Fallon got in on the Kevin Costner Yellowstone drama, pitching a funny new name for the McConaughey-led series — Yellowstoned. Playing off McConaughey’s laid-back personality, Fallon provided a lighthearted take on a situation Yellowstone fans probably aren’t too happy about. It may be hard to get fans on board with McConaughey when they’ve grown accustomed to Costner, but it might not be impossible.
Some users are simply confused by the news. It is a bit strange that there would be plans in place to continue Yellowstone without Kevin Costner when you could just make a new spin-off instead. Rather than ‘replacing’ Costner, you could simply say you’re wanting to end the story of the mainline series.
Others point out that McConaughey might actually be a good fit for the Yellowstone universe, whether he’s replacing Kevin Costner or not. This is a great point, as McConaughey has had nothing but stellar performances in the late stages of his career. Especially in his TV roles like True Detective.
Of course, the reactions aren’t all bad. There are plenty of people who love Matthew McConaughey as an actor and would be more than happy to see him take on a lead role in the Yellowstone universe, even if it’s at the expense of Kevin Costner. In other words, some people think this news is alright, alright, aright.
According to reports, the conflict between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan is over shooting schedules. Reports indicate that Costner already wanted a protracted filming schedule for the first half of the current season and wanted only a week of filming for the second half. These definitely seem like untenable schedules for such a big production.
However, Deadline’s most recent report indicates that Paramount intends to keep Kevin Costner on as long as possible. A spokesperson for the network told Deadline that the actor is a “big part of Yellowstone and we hope thatās the case for a long time to come,” while also adding “Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom weād love to partner.” It seems like they may be hedging their bets a little with that statement, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated with the latest news.
