Jeremy Renner Recovery Progress A Miracle?
Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly have reported Jeremy Renner is recovering swiftly from his snowplow accident.
Ant-Man and The Wasp star Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly have great news about fellow MCU stalwart Jeremy Renner: he’s doing great! Variety reports that the pair have been in contact with the Hawkeye star, and his recovery so far is amazing. “He was wheeling himself around, laughing with his friends. It’s a miracle. It’s a straight up miracle,” said Lilly after a visit to Renner’s home.
Readers will recall Jeremy Renner suffered a horrible accident involving a snow plow earlier this year. The Avengers actor suffered blunt chest trauma and broke 30 bones in the incident that landed him in the ICU. The devastating accident happened just a week before the actor’s 52 birthday, leaving his friends and family unsure whether Renner would make it.
But never count out an Avenger! Jeremy has been making an incredible recovery, much to the relief of his Marvel co-stars. Paul Rudd spoke to the Bourne Legacy star on the eve of the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania world premiere and was overjoyed to hear how well his friend was doing. “He’s doing alright. He’s doing well…He’s the best guy, and he’s awesome,” said Rudd praising Renner.
Anyone who follows Jeremy Renner on Instagram is already aware of just how well the star is recuperating. Renner posted a picture of himself in the middle of his physical therapy routine just three weeks after the terrible accident that almost took his life. Jeremy wrote in the caption that his “30 plus broken bones” would “mend” and “grow stronger.” He went on to thank all his fans for their prayers and well wishes.
Fans of the Captain America: Civil War star are no doubt rejoicing over news of the actor’s promising recovery. Marvel just announced a slate of Phase 5 projects and beyond, and several would presumably feature Renner in his Hawkeye role. Jeremy will be back in fighting shape with any luck before the next Avengers starts shooting.
There is always the possibility that the star may not be physically or mentally in the right condition to resume his duties as the heroic archer. Marvel has two options if that happens: recast the role or have Kate Bishop take over.
The MCU has had to recast roles before. Most notably, when Don Cheadle took over for Terrance Howard in the role of James Rhodes, Iron Man’s BFF. Just recently, Harrison Ford was cast to fill the role of General Thunderbolt Ross after the death of William Hurt.
It’s much more likely that Marvel would have just handed the Hawkeye baton to Kate Bishop rather than recast the role. Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld, was introduced as a sort of protege to Jeremy Renner in the Disney+ Hawkeye series. Indeed, even prior to Renner’s terrible accident, it seemed like a strong possibility that Steinfeld was being built up as a successor to Hawkeye name.
While the National Lampoon’s Senior Trip actor is still a long way from getting back in front of a movie camera, it’s bound to happen eventually. The way Jeremy Renner is recovering, he will surely have his pick of roles in no time, whether that includes a continued role in the MCU or not. As Evangeline Lilly put it when discussing Renner, “He’s made of something really tough that guy.”
