Kevin Costner is in final negotiations with Marvel Studios to join the cast of the upcoming Vision Quest limited series. According to our trusted and proven sources, the Yellowstone (for now) star is being recruited to join the sequel to Disney+’s WandaVision series, in which Paul Bettany’s Vision was resurrected by S.W.O.R.D., the extra-governmental intelligence agency that seems to be filling the vacuum left by the collapse of S.H.I.E.L.D. While it is not certain what role Kevin Costner might be up for in Vision Quest, we are going to make a bold guess and say: Henry Peter Gyrich.

While Henry Peter Gyrich may not be a familiar name to many casual Marvel fans, but there is good reason to think that is who Kevin Costner may be playing in Vision Quest. Gyrich was first introduced in The Avengers in 1977, created by the legendary Jim Shooter and John Byrne; he essentially acted as a government representative and antagonist to various superheroic teams, similar to how Thunderbolt Ross has been portrayed so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, one important detail that makes Kevin Costner as Gyrich likely for Vision Quest is that the character has frequently been associated with S.W.O.R.D., at one point serving as its co-head with Abigail Brand (who we also suspect to be appearing soon). Given that the events of WandaVision involved Vision’s body being rebuilt and reactivated by S.W.O.R.D. with a little assistance from Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and her chaos magic, it makes sense that the agency would be involved in the follow-up series.

WandaVision involved the grieving Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch resurrected Vision, who had been killed when Thanos (Josh Brolin) ripped the Mind Stone from his head, but only as a magical construct. Meanwhile, S.W.O.R.D. retrieved his actual body and eventually managed to reactivate him as the “White Vision” without his memories, intending to use him as a sentient weapon. At the climax of the limited series, the magical construct Vision and White Vision merged, with the effect of giving the latter memories and a whole lot of questions about his identity and purpose.

Presumably, Vision Quest will pick up after that, with S.W.O.R.D. pursuing Paul Bettany with intentions to get him back under its control. Kevin Costner being introduced in Vision Quest as the new, ruthless head of S.W.O.R.D. would be an interesting twist on the Dances with Wolves actor’s famously genial, nice-guy image. Given that Monica Rambeau will presumably be out somewhere in outer space with Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan, there will likely be no one to oppose Kevin Costner turning the agency to his own purposes in Vision Quest.

We shall just have to wait and see, but hopefully, Kevin Costner and Marvel Studios can work out something for Vision Quest. It is high time we see Costner somewhere other than Yellowstone.
