Jennifer Coolidge Must Return To Her Best Role Or It Won’t Go On?
Reese Witherspoon recently shared an update about Legally Blonde 3, claiming there can be no movie without Jennifer Coolidge.
We’ve been hearing a lot of talk about the highly anticipated and long-awaited third installment of the early 2000s smash hit, Legally Blonde. Writer and producer Mindy Kaling has said they are taking their time to get it right and has even teased at the project being an ensemble cast. According to an Entertainment Tonight interview, star Reese Witherspoon has assured us one thing, without her friend Paulette, played by the recently revived Jennifer Coolidge, there would be no Legally Blonde 3. “There is no Legally Blonde 3 without Jennifer Coolidge,” Witherspoon exclaimed.
While at the premiere of Witherspoon’s new romantic comedy, Your Place or Mine, she was inevitably going to be asked about the new project surrounding her Elle Woods character. She and Mindy Kaling have remained tight-lipped about the film’s plot or timeframe. However, Witherspoon spoke about how she was “beyond herself” about the White Lotus star who was finally getting her moment.
After commenting on her talents and how happy she was about finally getting the recognition she deserved, the actress revealed that Jennifer Coolidge would be an integral part of making Legally Blonde 3 a reality. Reese Witherspoon wasn’t the only one to talk about the need for Coolidge’s Paulette to return to the franchise. Mindy Kaling (who is attached to write and produce) also commented on the star’s return.
She told ET back in April of last year that the American Pie star would “1000 percent be involved.” She then continued to gush over the talent Coolidge has to use a simple glance to elevate any material, calling writing for someone like Coolidge a jackpot.
As for Jennifer Coolidge, she has said she doesn’t know anything about her involvement in the next Legally Blonde. Back in October, the actress said that she hadn’t spoken to anyone about her return, saying that she would get random texts or calls with updates about the project, but she feels maybe they are trying to surprise her with it. She then committed herself to the project completely, expressing how much fun she would have working with Reece Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.
The delay in information isn’t a surprise as everyone involved in the project is busy working on other things. Reece Witherspoon has been on the road promoting her new Netflix film, Your Place or Mine, which stars Ashton Kutcher and premieres on the streaming giant on February 10. The movie follows the characters, who are lifelong friends, as they swap apartments and lives in LA and NY and navigate a budding love triangle.
Jennifer Coolidge may have a little trouble fitting Legally Blonde 3 into her schedule as she would have to take time away from filming new seasons of The White Lotus and the many projects she gets thrown her way. She is more in demand than she has ever been. Mindy Kaling is also hard at work writing and starring in Season 2 of her HBO Max series, Velma.
While fans are clamoring to find out where all of the Legally Blonde characters have ended up 21 years later, they have waited long enough that it seems rushing it at this point would be a mistake. With her newfound adoration and cult status, Jennifer Coolidge may be more important to Legally Blonde 3 than Reece Witherspoon.
