Tom Hardy Joins Another Marvel Star In Serial Killer Series
Tom Hardy, from Venom, and Zazie Beets, from Deadpool, join forces in a new AppleTV streaming series.
Thanks to the wide variety of actors that have appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it isn’t that rare for multiple actors in the MCU to be seen together outside the franchise. What is relatively rare is two actors that have appeared in Marvel movies but ones that weren’t strictly in the MCU, and that is now a reality. According to Deadline, Tom Hardy and Zazie Beetz are now set to appear in Apple TV+’s Lazerus.
The pair will be playing in the series based on the Joona Linna book series written by Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril under the pen name Lars Kepler. The series follows police detective Saga Bauer as she goes undercover in a psychiatric hospital to get close to a presumed serial killer, Jurek Walter. According to the report, Zazie Beetz is set to portray Saga Bauer, and Tom Hardy has signed on to play Jurek Walter.
Both of the actors have Marvel ties, with Zazie Beets appearing alongside Ryan Reynolds in the follow-up to his red-suited hero, Deadpool 2. Her part in the film was the first live-action adaptation of Deadpool’s partner in crime, Domino. She joined the cast along with Josh Brolin, Brad Pitt, and Morena Baccarin.
Zazie Beetz is best known for her Emmy Award-winning role on FX’s drama surrounding the music business, Atlanta. She also played a primary role in the loose historical adaptation of the Wild West in the Netflix film, The Harder They Fall. However, her Marvel role isn’t the only time Zazie Beets played in a comic book adaptation, as she appeared in DC’s Joker film by Todd Phillips.
Tom Hardy has his tie to the Marvel property by playing Eddie Brock, an investigative reporter who bonds with a symbiote, in Venom and its sequel. While the first film was well received and caused many of the fans to start screaming for a showdown between Hardy’s Venom and Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man, Venom: Let there Be Carnage failed to receive the same level of praise. One thing that his portrayal brought to the character was a comedic angle that brought more of an anti-hero feel to him instead of a villain that Spider-Man fans came to love.
Tom Hardy gained worldwide renown when he won a British Independent Film Award for Best Actor in the biopic about the brutal British criminal Bronson. He also was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in the Leonardo DiCaprio Academy Award-winning film, The Revenant. He also cut his teeth into the superhero world when he appeared as Bane in the finale of the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.
Tom Hardy and Zazie Beetz could soon be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Hardy’s symbiote made an appearance in the Multiverse centered film Spider-Man: No Way Home. Zazie Beetz could also eventually show up as Ryan Reynolds is confirmed to be bringing his Deadpool universe into the MCU. With that kind of clout behind it, Lazerus has a great chance to be a massive hit for Apple TV.
