Exclusive: Jennifer Coolidge In Talks For Agatha: Coven Of Chaos
White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge may join Agatha: Coven of Chaos as a new witch.
Update September 2024: Jennifer Coolidge has not been cast in Agatha All Along, the series name that replaced Agatha: Coven Of Chaos
The White Lotus breakout star Jennifer Coolidge is in negotiations to join the cast of Agatha: Coven of Chaos as a witch, presumably with some connection to Kathryn Hahn’s title character. According to our trusted and proven sources, the recent Primetime Emmy Award winner may be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the upcoming Disney+ series, though her specific role is still somewhat vague. Although Jennifer Coolidge has been a reliable and acclaimed comedic actor for decades, the combination of The White Lotus and Agatha: Coven of Chaos would be an enormous boost in her visibility.
If Jennifer Coolidge does join Agatha: Coven of Chaos, she will be the second actor from HBO’s critically acclaimed comedy-drama murder mystery series The White Lotus to jump on board. It was recently announced that former Parks and Recreation star (and Saturday Night Live host) Aubrey Plaza was joining the Marvel series in some capacity, though it is also not confirmed what role she might play. However, if Marvel Studios wants to cast a lightly-comedic, horror-tinged show about witches, it can definitely do a lot worse than cast Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza, and Jennifer Coolidge for Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
Prior to her breakout role in The White Lotus, Jennifer Coolidge was best known for her role in Reese Witherspoon’s Legally Blonde series as softspoken hairstylist and eventual free spirit Paulette Parcelle, which she will reprise in an upcoming third movie. She also starred in the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls between 2011 and 2017; interestingly, the series starred Kat Dennings, who was a prominent character in WandaVision, the previous Marvel series that introduced Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness. But considering Jennifer Coolidge has over 125 credits on her IMDb even before Agatha: Coven of Chaos, it stands to reason that she would overlap with quite a few other Marvel stars.
Jennifer Coolidge recently appeared in the Jennifer Lopez/Josh Duhamel action comedy Shotgun Wedding, and will soon star in We Have a Ghost alongside Marvel stars David Harbour (who starred in Black Widow as Red Guardian and will soon appear in Thunderbolts) and Anthony Mackie (who will next star in Captain America: New World Order). It has become very apparent that the gravitational pull (and paycheck) of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is pulling in essentially every actor in Hollywood, so Jennifer Coolidge in Agatha: Coven of Chaos just kind of makes sense.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos will follow the events of the very first Marvel Disney+ series, WandaVision, in which Kathryn Hahn’s character was first introduced as a friendly neighbor to Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany’s Vision. It eventually turned out the mysterious events happening in the small town of Westview, New Jersey, were due in large part to the manipulation of Agatha (or you could say, it was Agatha all along), who was eventually defeated and trapped in the town herself. Presumably, the series (also by WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer) will pick up where that left off, and maybe bring in Jennifer Coolidge and Aubrey Plaza to help Agatha out.
