Grace Park first rose to prominence as the traitor Cylon Sharon “Boomer” Valerii on the 2003 Battlestar Galactica miniseries, reprising her role for the following series and movies. Before breaking out into acting, the Canadian-American actress was a successful model, working with L’Oreal, Comptoir des Cotonniers, and Club Monaco. A celebrity fan account on Twitter shared one of her modeling photos, and it will make fans see double.
Posing against the mirror is an artistic choice that gives a view of Grace Park’s front and back, at the same time. Wearing a black bikini with lace straps, the actress is demonstrating why she was once part of the Mercedes-Benz Start Up show in Toronto. A trained psychologist as well as a model and actress, the 48-year-old has had a long and successful career in Hollywood, spanning three decades.
Before Battlestar Galactica went to series, Grace Park was a frequent guest star on shows like Dark Angel, The Dead Zone, and Stargate SG-1, while one of the leads on the Canadian teen drama Edgemont. Her breakthrough as a renegade Cylon, the robots trying to destroy the last remnants of humanity, made Park a regular guest at sci-fi conventions and lasted for six years. Despite her character going through ups and downs, including death at one point, Park remained on the show from the first episode of the mini-series to the final movie, Battlestar Galactica: The Plan.
Following the controversial ending of the hit sci-fi series, Grace Park went to another huge show, and an even bigger showcase than the Syfy series: Hawaii 5-0. Starring Alex O’Loughlin and Scott Caan, the series is a revival of the long-running show from 1968 to 1980 starring Jack Lord. Park and Lost veteran Daniel Dae Kim joined later in the first season, becoming part of the elite major crimes task force maintaining law and order under the jurisdiction of the Governor.
Grace Park played Kono Kalakaua, a former surfer, for seven seasons, helping make the show a hit for CBS. However, Park and Kim left the show before the eighth season after complaining to the network that they were receiving 10 to 15 percent less than their co-stars (via Deadline). CBS did not budge and the two Asian stars left the show, which lasted just three more seasons following diminishing ratings.
Again, Grace Park went from one long-running show to another, taking her talents to the drama series, A Million Little Things. Airing on ABC, the show follows a group of friends in Boston that reevaluate their lives and relationships following a suicide. Park plays Katherine Kim, a lawyer and mom, struggling to keep her career and marriage going as she continually outgrows her old fun-loving and wild lifestyle.
Photos from Grace Park’s modeling days serve as a reminder of where the star started, before landing major role after major role. A Million Little Things will air its final season later this year, leaving the door open for the talented television star to again find another successful project.
