Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Coming Sooner Than Expected?
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has officially wrapped production, meaning we could be seeing the new series later this year.
According to Deadline, filming has already wrapped for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the new series from Disney+. Stunt coordinator George Cottle commemorated the moment by sharing a video on Instagram along with the caption: “That’s a Wrap on Skeleton Crew!! Once again I was lucky enough to be surrounded by some of the most amazing stunt performers I have ever worked with!!”
Stunt actress Juliana Potter also shared a post about the bittersweet moment, saying that she “can’t wait” for audiences to see Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, but that she will miss her “stunt family” from the project, which she has been working with since September 2022.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was first announced during a Star Wars convention in May 2022, and is set to premiere on the streaming platform later this year. According to director Jon Watts, the show is about “a group of kids who are about ten years old who get lost in the Star Wars universe.” It is a coming-of-age story with four children as the lead actors, but Watts makes it clear that it’s “not a kids’ show.”
There is not much known about the actual plot of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew outside of that, except that the showrunners state that it is set in the same time period as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.
A few other things we know about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is that it was written by Christopher Ford and executive produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau and that its cast includes Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’s Jude Law. It is not known yet what role he will play, but some fans are theorizing that he may play some sort of helpful father figure for the kids.
According to an article in Vanity Fair, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was originally referred to, not by a title, but by a code name. And that code name was Grammar Rodeo, in reference to a Simpsons episode called “Bart on the Road,” which sees Bart run away with his classmates for a week. The excuse they give their parents is that they are going to the fictitious National Grammar Rodeo in Canada, which implies that something similar may happen in this new Star Wars series.
Within Lucasfilm, the show has also been described as “a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s,” meaning that we may also be in for some wholesome, ET-like bonding between friends (some of which may be aliens) and some high-stakes escapades that take the kids far outside the comfort zone of their own backyard.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew isn’t the only Star Wars content to watch on Disney+, however. As you wait for the release date, you can catch up on the entire “Skywalker Saga” of Star Wars films, as well as the standalone films Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Then there are the original series: The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Andor, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, not to mention all the animated Star Wars series.
While a firm release date for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has yet to be announced, it is predicted to be sometime in the summer, after The Mandalorian’s third season premieres in March.
