Fan-Favorite Harry Potter Actors Reuniting In An Unexpected Way
The adventure reality series Fantastic Friends, starring James and Oliver Phelps - best known as the Weasley twins of Harry Potter - just wrapped filming its second season.
It’s been over a decade since J.K. Rowling’s book series-turned-film-franchise Harry Potter bowed out with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, with many of its stars moving on to appear in other projects. With Daniel Radcliffe taking on some rather bizarre roles to the possibility of spinoff productions, the sky has been the limit for those involved in the fan-favorite story. Two of those celebrated actors, James and Oliver Phelps, who played twins Fred and George Weasley, struck gold when they went into the adventure reality business with Fantastic Friends, a series that, according to Deadline, has just wrapped filming for Season 2.
Fantastic Friends follows the two Harry Potter stars as they team up with their past co-workers and several new pals from shows like Game of Thrones. Each episode transports audiences to a different location with fantasy-based, heart-pounding adventures around every twist and turn. At the center of it all are the Phelps brothers who act as the show’s hosts and who solemnly swear that they are up to no good.
The first season of Fantastic Friends saw familiar Harry Potter franchise faces including Mark Williams, who played Arthur Weasley, the twins’ father, in the films. The boys – or rather men – were also joined by fellow Potter alums including Matthew Lewis, who played Hogwarts hero Neville Longbottom, Alfie Enoch, who played Gryffindor Quidditch player Dean Thomas, Natalie Tena, who portrayed Nymphadora Tonks, a witch and the wife of Remus Lupin, and Stanislav Yanevski who appeared in the role of Quidditch prodigy, Viktor Krum. The twins were also joined by Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams, who played everyone’s favorite assassin, Arya Stark, on the HBO series.
So, who will make an appearance on the second season of Fantastic Friends? While it’s unclear which Harry Potter faces will be joining the Weasleys – er – the Phelps on their next adrenaline-filled journey, we do know that Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen, who played Theon Greyjoy, will be along for the ride. Also included in the lineup are The Sandman’s Corey Mylechreest and The Fugitive’s Genesis Rodriguez.
Committed to taking audiences to the coolest and most eye-catching locations on the planet, director Daniel Sharp has crafted what sounds like an epic follow-up season that will see the Harry Potter stars kicking it up a notch. The eight-episode season will feature destinations including Turkey, the Swiss Alps, Australia, Chile, Singapore, Florida, and Patagonia. Just like last season, extreme sports are on the docket with the hosts and guests going ice climbing, ghost hunting, and snowmobiling.
Since their roles in the Harry Potter franchise, both Phelps brothers have gone on to work in the entertainment industry, but haven’t found anything comparable to their time fighting he who shall not be named at Hogwarts. The duo tends to stick together and work on similar projects, leading them to be cast in productions like Danny and the Human Zoo and Last Night in Soho. In recent years, they started the podcast, Normal Not Normal, on which they talk about their travels, lives, and conduct interviews with others in the business.
