Wednesday Star Accused of Sexual Assault
Percy Hynes White, Xavier on Wednesday, has been accused of sexual assault by women that attended parties he would throw in high school.
After the surprise success of Wednesday, the cast of mostly young actors are enjoying success a level that they never have before in their careers. MSN reports that one of the show’s young stars, Percy Hynes White who plays Xavier, is facing a new level of scrutiny following sexual assault allegations on social media. What started as one Twitter user sharing their experience with the star has snowballed as more women have started posting additional allegations, which due to the age of White, partially took place while he was in high school.
The controversy started with Twitter user @milkievich, sharing experiences she and her friends had at parties thrown by Percy Hynes White and his group of friends. According to the young women, this group would “explicitly invite women they thought were hot so they could get them drunk and high enough to have sex with them.” While that might sound like standard high school behavior, that was also just the start of the allegations, none of which have been tested in a court of law at this point.
The original Twitter thread soon exploded with other high school acquaintances chiming in, noting that the alleged behavior continued when Percy Hynes White was seventeen and older. These further allegations include reports of assault, use of abusive names and racial slurs, and finally, sharing nude photos online without consent. That last one may be an issue for the Canadian actor, given the young age of himself and the women that attended these parties.
Evidence of one claim, use of racial slurs, has been uploaded online in a short video to social media sites. Percy Hynes White has disabled all comments on his Instagram and has not made any official statement regarding the allegations. Neither Netflix nor anyone officially affiliated with Wednesday have made comments.
Again, no charges have been filed, but that statement may have to be amended with a “yet,” as some women may pursue criminal charges through the Canadian court system. Though even without charges being filed, Percy Hynes White career, especially in shows aimed at a female audience, may be irrevocably damaged. Other stars have come through controversy, but it’s a long and difficult road, which will be infinitely harder if the allegations are confirmed to be true.
Just recently, other men in Hollywood have been accused of crimes against women, including Justin Roiland, the co-creator of Rick and Morty. In 2022, director Paul Haggis was found liable of three counts of rape in a civil case, stemming from a 2017 incident in New York City. Percy Hynes White does not have the long career, nor the significant amounts of money that those men have, putting him in a much more precarious position.
Percy Hynes White, if the allegations are true, will likely be removed from the upcoming season 2 of Wednesday, and frankly, all of Hollywood. Should criminal charges be filed, given the young women were between the ages of 13 and 17, his career will be over. None of that has happened yet, but this story is likely to continue developing over the coming weeks.
