Kevin Spacey In Hiding Amid Misconduct Allegations?
Kevin Spacey has denied that he is in hiding, claiming to be publicly living in Italy.
Kevin Spacey recently spoke to Italian news outlets and denied that he has been keeping a low profile since he was accused of sexual misconduct in 2017. Deadline reported on his comments to the Italian news agency Ansa where Spacey said “I live my life every day,” adding “I haven’t hidden away, I haven’t gone to live in a cave.” Spacey made his comments before he was set to make a public appearance for an event held by Turin, Italy’s National Cinema Museum.
Kevin Spacey appeared at the event to conduct a masterclass and accept the museum’s Stella della Mole Award for lifetime achievement. Spacey also presented a screening of American Beauty, which is one of Spacey’s most acclaimed films. His performance earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor in 2000.
Last week, Kevin Spacey pleaded not guilty to seven sexual offense charges in the UK. The seven charges were authorized by the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service, along with the five charges that were filed against him in June. Spacey pleaded not guilty to the previous five charges back in July.
Kevin Spacey will stand trial for all of these charges on June 6, 2023. This is Spacey’s latest legal battle following the lawsuit brought against him by Anthony Rapp. Rapp went public with sexual misconduct allegations against Spacey back in 2017, which led to many other accusers coming forward.
In October, Kevin Spacey was found not liable for the $40 million lawsuit brought filed against him by Rapp. Rapp issued a statement following the verdict that he was “deeply grateful” that his story was able to be told. Rapp’s lawyer added, “We respect the jury’s verdict, but it doesn’t change his (Rapp’s) truth.”
Despite Kevin Spacey’s indicating that he hasn’t been keeping a low profile since 2017, his speaking engagement in Italy was his first major public appearance since the allegations. He will also be traveling to Rome soon to attend the world premiere of his first feature film since 2017, The Man Who Drew God. Spacey hasn’t appeared in a major feature since Baby Driver in 2017 and after losing his role as Frank Underwood in Netflix’s House of Cards.
The Man Who Drew God is directed by Franco Nero and follows the life of a blind artist who creates true-to-life portraits by listening to peoples’ voices. Along with Kevin Spacey, the film stars Faye Dunaway, Franco Nero, Robert Davi, Stefania Rocca, Alessia Alciati, and Diana Dell’Erba. The film is written by Lorenzo De Luca with a story by Eugenio Masciari.
Despite the allegations against him, Kevin Spacey was also cast in several other projects that are on the way. His film Control is expected to be released sometime in 2023 and follows a woman whose self-driving car is hijacked on her way home from an affair with the British Prime Minister. The film is directed and written by Gene Fallaize and also stars Lauren Metcalfe, Mark Hampton, Natasha Kemball, Eire Farrell, Aaron Liburd, and Joshua Frater-Loughlin.
Kevin Spacey’s other upcoming film, titled Peter Five Eight, does not yet have a release date. The film follows a real estate agent whose life begins to unravel when a man in black shows up under the orders of his shadowy boss. The film is directed and written by Michael Zaiko Hall.
