Wyatt Russell Is Making A Monster Movie About A Swimming Pool
Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon will star in the supernatural thriller Night Swim.
Horror maestros Jason Blum and James Wan are about to go off the deep end. After the killer opening of M3GAN, a co-production of Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, the team is reuniting for the supernatural thriller Night Swim. As reported by Deadline, the film will star Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon as they deal with disturbing forces emanating from a backyard swimming pool.
Night Swim is based on a short film of the same name created by Bryce McGuire and Rod Blackhurst. McGuire is set to pen the screenplay and make his feature directorial debut with the adaptation. Details about the plot or Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon’s roles have not yet been revealed, but Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are eying an early 2024 release for the film.
2023 started with a box office bang thanks to M3GAN, a film about a killer robot doll that James Wan described as “Annabelle meets The Terminator.” The film was just a preview of what’s to come as Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, two of the most popular and lucrative players in modern horror, are closing in on a deal that would merge the companies and the vast, violent catalogs they bring to the table. The success of M3GAN only put more blood in the water, and Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon have sniffed it out.
Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon are both coming off of big years. Russell starred with Andrew Garfield in Hulu’s Emmy Award-nominated crime drama Under the Banner of Heaven, and Condon is enjoying her own success this awards season thanks to her performance in The Banshees of Inisherin. Both actors have also played parts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; Condon plays Tony Stark’s AI Friday, and Russell made his Marvel debut in 2021 as Captain America, but quickly made the transition to the title of U.S. Agent, a character he will reprise in Marvel’s upcoming team-up Thunderbolts.
Wyatt Russell is also set to appear alongside his father, Kurt Russell, in Apple’s still untitled Godzilla series. The father-son duo are also in talks for a sequel to John Carpenter’s action classic Escape From New York, with Kurt Russell reprising one of his most iconic roles as the rough and tumble Snake Plissken. As for Kerry Condon, the actress will be soon be seen alongside Liam Neeson in In the Land of Saints and Sinners from Trouble With the Curve director Robert Lorenz.
Blumhouse has been a hit machine with its reboot of the Halloween franchise, The Invisible Man (2020), and Get Out, and James Wan’s Atomic Monster is responsible for films like Malignant and the entire Conjuring universe. These two powerhouses teaming up is a nightmare come true for horror fans, and Night Swim may be the first official film the companies put out together post-merger. In any case, the collaborations between these filmmaking hellions are bound to spill guts and shiver spines everywhere, and Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon should probably start swimming lessons sooner than later.
