A Bizarre Rachel McAdams Fantasy Movie Is Streaming For Free
The Hot Chick, a truly horrible Rachel McAdams and Rob Schneider film, is somehow in the top ten on Freevee this week.
The Hot Chick has entered the Freevee top ten this week, according to Flix Patrol. The Rachel McAdams movie, which features an impressive 21% on Rotten Tomatoes, is a body swap film in which a teenage girl swaps bodies with an adult Rob Schneider, just weeks before an upcoming cheer competition and the school prom. The titular hot chick must find a way to escape Rob Schneider’s hairy, aging, corporeal vessel in order to save her status as the coolest mean girl in school, and successfully stop Schneider’s criminal character from destroying her life.
This Rachel McAdams movie, which premiered in 2002, two full years before Mean Girls took the world by storm, was directed by none other than Tom Brady. Brady’s filmmaking skills would prove to be about as successful as his football skills, as this particular Tom Brady is a University of Hawaii graduate with not a single Super Bowl ring. Brady would go on to write and direct 2007’s The Comebacks, a farcical comedy film parodying the cliches of famous sports films, and 2011’s Bucky Larson: Born to be A Star, which is a practical joke on anybody who dares to press play.
The film falls into a specific niche of early 2000’s Adam Sandler produced movies which focused on low brow, slapstick comedy and poorly aged and often deeply offensive topical humor, appealing to an audience of mostly very young Family Guy fans. Other films in this genre include Rob Schneider’s other magnum opus, Deuce Bigalo: Male Gigolo, as well as Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star, and the 2006 Wayans’ brothers film Little Man. The Rachel McAdams movie may not be much to write home about, but it’s available to stream for free on Freevee.
Rachel McAdams was in her twenties when the movie was made, making it slightly less creepy that her depiction of a teenage girl can be seen stripping and scamming gentlemen callers out of cash during the run time of the movie, but this does very little to redeem the rampant homophobic jokes strewn throughout the 104 minutes of screen time, or the incredibly disturbing imagery of Rob Schneider in lingerie. The film was critically panned for just about everything, with most major film critics of the time pointing out that the humor is flat, the premise is highly juvenile, and the acting is physically painful to endure. Rob Schneider was nominated for a Razzie award for worst actor of the decade for his leading performance.
Despite the negative reception, the Rachel McAdams film’s current status among the top 10 movies on Freevee is a sign that many people are watching it right now. Perhaps these views are coming from a holdover of drunken New Years Eve parties, or a coterie of viewers whose New Years resolutions include catching up on all their favorite Rob Schneider films in an effort to purge toxicity in January to achieve a cleansing 2023. Flanking the film amongst the Freevee top 10 are other major hits such as The Angry Birds Movie, A Christmas Karen, and Shrek The Musical.
