See A Younger Version Of Netflix’s Best Character In Highly-Anticipated Prequel
Netflix has released the first look at Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story
Netflix has released another image from its highly anticipated series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. The photo sees young Lady Agatha Danbury (Arsema Thomas) looking rather apprehensive while standing outside. The person she is with has their back to the camera. So, it’s unclear if the individual is trying to help, or is the cause of her distress. The snapshot comes from episode six of the series, Deadline reports.
Written by Shonda Rhimes, the Bridgerton spin-off will focus on the young Queen’s marriage to King George. It will also explore how their union sparked the great love story and societal shift which led to the culturally inclusive world of the ton seen in the flagship series. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will see India Amarteifio portray the younger version of Charlotte.
Golda Rosheuvel, who plays the character in Bridgerton, will reprise her role which means the limited series could feature several flash-forwards. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the prequel sees a young Charlotte forced to marry the King of England as soon as she arrives in London. She soon realizes that the royal life isn’t what she expects and quickly learns how to navigate her unpredictable new surroundings.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will include another familiar face. Along with Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, Ruth Gemmell will reprise her Bridgerton role as Lady Violet and Adjoa Andoh will be featured as an older version of Lady Danbury. Michelle Fairley will appear as Princess Augusta, and Corey Mylchreest will star as young King George.
Rounding out the cast of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story are Sam Clemmett as young Brimsley and Freddie Dennis as Reynolds. Richard Cunningham appears as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, and Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor. Meanwhile, Cyril Nri stars as Lord Danbury with Hugh Sachs appearing as an older Brimsley.
Although Netflix previously released a first-look image of India Amarteifio’s Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury has been a fan favorite for a long time. But the sharp-tongued, insightful doyenne of London society needs an origin story too. In Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Agatha, who exists under the thumb of her much older husband, uses Charlotte’s arrival to carve her own path as a socialite.
With knowledge of the once-divided social scene, Agatha becomes a guiding light for Queen Charlotte who is also navigating the intricacies of marriage. And as Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story progresses, she slowly evolves into the iconic Lady Danbury, according to Deadline. Along with writing duties, Shonda Rhimes serves as showrunner and executive producer with Betsy Beers and director Tom Verica.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will consist of eight episodes and is set to premiere later this year. Interestingly, romance author Julia Quinn is teaming up with Rhimes for a series of prequel novels based on the upcoming series. The books will be published by Avon Books, an imprint of the William Morrow Group at HarperCollins and the publisher of the original Bridgerton novels, Deadline reports.
