Mandalorian Season 3 Will See The Return Of Moff Gideon In A Surprising Way
Giancarlo Esposito, the actor behind Moff Gideon, promises the villain will return in the The Mandalorian season 3.
Giancarlo Esposito, one of the best actors in Hollywood when the script calls for an eloquent, suave, and menacing villain, is promising that he’ll return in The Mandalorian season 3. TV Line reports that the Breaking Bad star, contrary to how his character ended season 2, in the upcoming episodes “You’re going to get some Moff Gideon.” While seeing the acclaimed actor on screen is always a treat, even if he tends to play the villain, the last fans knew of his character, Gideon was in the custody of the New Republic.
After hunting down the Mandalorian and his charge, Grogu (Baby Yoda) over the course of season 2, Moff Gideon was forced to give up the Darksaber, and the title of “Heir to Mandalore”, to the Mandalorian. Disgraced, Gideon attempted one last shot with a hidden blaster, but was stopped by Cara Dune (Gina Carano). With his cruiser gone, Dark Troopers destroyed, and having been defeated in combat by the Mandalorian, Moff Gideon is starting off The Mandalorian season 3 in a very different position from where he started season 2.
Giancarlo Esposito is aware of Moff Gideon’s current position, “You always want to see the phoenix rise from the ashes. Or, you want to see a nefarious villain rise from the ashes, and believe me, he will.” While that sounds ominous for the heroes during The Mandalorian season 3, more Moff Gideon, and more Giancarlo Esposito is great news for fans of the smash hit streaming series. Amazingly, it has been over two years since season 2 premiered on Disney+.
Acting as a sort of season 2.5, the middle episodes from The Book of Boba Fett picked up after season 2, explaining how Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin lost the title of Mandalorian, and setting up the initial mission of The Mandalorian season 3. Also returning in the upcoming season is Katee Sackhoff (Bo Katan), Carl Weathers (Greef Carga), Emily Swallow (The Armorer), and Amy Sedaris (Peli Motto). As usual, fans can expect some surprises during the season, while they may not match the sheer glee of seeing Rosario Dawson bringing Ashoka to live-action for the first time, the possibility exists that almost anyone from Star Wars canon can make an appearance.
Before The Mandalorian season 3 debuts Wednesday, March 1st on Disney+, Giancarlo Esposito appears in a very unique Netflix original series, Kaleidoscope, which went up on January 1st. The heist series stars Esposito as the leader of a crew trying to steal $7 billion, alongside Rufus Sewell, Paz Vega, Jai Courtney, Rosaline Elby, and Tati Gabrille. What makes the show unique is that most of the series can be watched in any order and the series will tell a cohesive, twist-filled story.
The Mandalorian season 3, coming off of a two year hiatus, is likely to be another huge success for Disney. Credited with changing the entire trajectory of the genre-defining Star Wars franchise thanks to the immediate success of the streaming series, The Mandalorian is responsible for all of the shows that followed, from Obi-Wan and Andor to Star Wars: Acolyte. In addition, the series has brought Giancarlo Esposito to a galaxy far, far away, which is a win for everyone.
