See The Amazing Way Scream 6 Is Honoring All Of The Franchise’s Dead Characters
New Scream 6 art shows a New York City subway map made to look like Ghostface with each stop one of the franchise's victims.
We’re just a little over two months away from the release of Scream 6, and marketing is now well underway for the upcoming sequel. In addition to a short yet surprisingly suspenseful teaser trailer released a few weeks back, several unique posters have popped up on the film’s various social media pages.
The most recent Scream 6 poster, posted to the movie’s official Twitter page on New Year’s Day, is a subway map that draws out the mask of Ghostface.
Not only is the latest poster for Scream 6 freakishly cool, but it’s riddled with easter eggs. All the subway stop names on the map have been replaced with the names of the killer’s victims from previous franchise installments. Additionally, each of the colored lines corresponds with a different film in the series.
For instance, if you follow the red line counterclockwise, you’ll notice that Maureen Prescott (Lynn McRee) is the first victim. Next, the route leads to Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) and eventually ends with Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera). In fact, all the subway paths lead to the franchise’s new final girl, including the blue line representing Scream 5.
The most loyal fans of the series will notice that the stop linked to Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) is “closed.” The horror buff was presumed dead after she was viciously attacked in Scream 4, however, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment in the fifth movie revealed she was alive. Now, she’s set to return in Scream 6, which marks her first on-screen role since 2018.
Joining Kirby and Sam in Scream 6 are fellow survivors Chad Meeks (Mason Gooding Jr.), Mindy Meeks (Jasmine Savoy Brown), Tara Carpenter (Jenny Ortega), and Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox).
Along with them will be a new batch of potential Ghostface victims played by Jack Champion, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra, Tony Revolri, Samara Weaving, and Dermot Mulroney. Not much is known about the plot at this time except that the survivors of the Ghostface killings leave Woodsboro behind to start a fresh chapter in New York City.
Neve Campbell was originally set to return as Sidney Prescott in Scream 6, but she passed on the film following a widely publicized pay dispute. The actress was reportedly unhappy with the amount she was offered for her role in the forthcoming sequel and felt it “did not equate to the value [she’s] brought to the franchise.” Following her departure from the project, the script was reportedly reworked to shift the focus to the franchise’s newer characters.
Scream 6 will mark the first movie in the hit horror series not to star Neve Campbell. However, despite walking away from the sequel, the actress is still a part of the film. Several of the movie’s cast members, including Jenny Ortega, have said that there will be plenty of references to Sidney in the upcoming flick.
Several stars of Scream 6 have teased that it will be the franchise’s goriest entry yet. With the film’s setting shifting from the small town of Woodsboro, California to New York City, Ghostface will certainly have a much larger playground to slice and dice. Everyone will once again be a suspect when the sequel arrives in theaters on March 10, 2023.
