Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler Sued For Sexual Assault And Other Terrible Crimes
Julia Holcomb is suing Steven Tyler for alleged sexual assault when she was 16 years old.
We generally accept excess from rock stars, which is why it’s fair to assume that Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler has done many crazy things over the years. However, some of the singer’s more heinous acts have come back to bite him recently, including a lawsuit for those alleged acts that occurred decades ago. Specifically, Rolling Stone writes that Tyler is being sued for sexually assaulting a minor, Julia Holcomb, when she was only 16 years old during the 1970s.
Holcomb filed the lawsuit against Steven Tyler in California, and the lawsuit alleges some very distressing things. In the lawsuit, Tyler is accused of sexual assault and sexual battery as well as intentionally inflicting emotional distress on the young Holcomb. If that wasn’t bad enough, though, the alleged incidents occurred while Tyler was Holcomb’s legal guardian.
In the lawsuit, Holcomb alleges that she began a relationship with Steven Tyler at the age of 16 and that he eventually convinced her mother to grant him guardianship of the young girl. This arrangement would allow him to live with her, thus enabling the alleged sexual relationship. Holcomb was apparently a major part of Tyler’s life from 1973 until sometime in 1976, and she even appears in a 1976 profile of the band.
The lawsuit doesn’t refer to Steven Tyler by name, instead referring to a “John Doe 1” and “John Doe 2.” But Holcomb has openly discussed her relationship with Tyler in the past, and her allegations seem to line up with the memoir Tyler previously wrote. In that memoir, Tyler writes about how he “almost took a teen bride” and that “her parents fell in love with me, signed a paper over for me to have custody, so I wouldn’t get arrested if I took her out of state. I took her on tour with me.”
The lawsuit claims that Steven Tyler met Holcomb after she had just turned 16 when Aerosmith played in Portland, Oregon. Afterward, Holcomb allegedly went to Tyler’s hotel room, and they discussed her troubled home life before having sex. Her underage status initially kept her from traveling across state lines with the band, and this is supposedly one of the main reasons Tyler petitioned to become her legal guardian.
The allegations against Steven Tyler in the lawsuit get even darker, including claims that Holcomb was pregnant with his child and that he convinced her to get an abortion that she didn’t really want. And while Tyler doesn’t specifically name Holcomb in his memoir, he details a disturbing relationship with an underage girl, writing that “she was sixteen, she knew how to nasty, and there wasn’t a hair on it.” He also wrote about becoming her legal guardian to avoid getting arrested, which matches some of Holcomb’s allegations.
While Holcomb has spoken about some of this before, the likely reason she is suing Steven Tyler now is due to the 2019 California’s Child Victims Act, which lifted the statute of limitations on childhood sexual abuse for a period of three years. Holcomb’s suit is coming in just under the wire, as she would not be able to sue Tyler after the new year. And while Tyler is no stranger to scandal and controversy, only time will tell how this lawsuit affects his life and career.
