The Best Witcher Character Gets A New Love Interest In Season 3
Jaskier's actor, Joey Batey, hints that the bard will get one or more love interests in the upcoming The Witcher Season 3.
Every Witcher fan’s favorite traveling bard, Jaskier, played by Joey Batey, will have one or maybe more love interests in The Witcher Season 3. This storyline for season 3 was originally teased by Joey Batey himself, in an interview with Games Radar, after his brief appearance in The Witcher: Blood Origin. While Blood Origin is a prequel set roughly 1,200 years before the original series, Joey Batey still made an appearance as Jaskier in the middle of a strange battle set sometime shortly after the events of The Witcher Season 2.
Originally based on a book series by Andrzej Sapkowski of the same name, the Netflix version of The Witcher storyline follows that of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) a wizard monster hunter as he travels through a land simply called the Continent. He goes on hunting witches, monsters, and other creatures of folktale. Often a quarter-elf sorceress, Yennifer (Anya Chalotra), and the bard Jaskier accompany Geralt in his efforts.
To better promote the prequel, Joey Batey went on Games Radar+ in an exclusive interview to dish out some interesting details about The Witcher Season 3 saying, “For me when I first read the scripts, they were the best scripts that I think we’ve done so far. There are some things from the books that I think fans are going to really, really enjoy. And some really lovely key moments that are very epic. Jaskier also gets a little bit of a love interest – maybe more than one.”
During the interview, Batey explained that The Witcher Season 3 will have, in his opinion, the strongest episodes yet for the fantasy series and explains some rather interesting set pieces for the traveling bard’s purpose in season 3.
Joey Batey teasing The Witcher’s third season: “For me when I first read the scripts, they were the best scripts that I think we’ve done so far. There are some things from the books that I think fans are going to really, really enjoy. And some really lovely key moments that are very epic. Jaskier also gets a little bit of a love interest – maybe more than one.”
So here’s what fans could expect from The Witcher Season 3 concerning Jaskier’s story. Canonically, Jaskier is based on a character named Dandelion originally appearing in Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, where Dandelion has several love interests including Anna Henrietta, Vespula, and Essi Daven. None of these characters have made an appearance in either season of the Netflix adaption to date.
It does complicate matters when trying to make accurate predictions when The Witcher series writers have actively mocked the source material. Henry Cavill reported that during the writing and production of season 2, he wanted a more book accurate Geralt, as in the book series, Geralt is supposed to be an amateur philosopher, a high-brow thinker, and thoughtful in his actions. Some fans hold the opinion that season 2 Geralt doesn’t quite stack up to the book version.
How true will The Witcher Season 3 be to both the games and the original book series is a question on many hardcore fans’ minds. The Witcher Season 3 comes out sometime in mid-2023 but hopefully, more answers and plotlines will be revealed before then.
