Gal Gadot Returns To An Unexpected Role
Gal Gadot is returning to Fast & Furious as Gisele in Fast X.
Recently, the career of Gal Gadot has been in flux. After James Gunn verified there would be no third Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman movie, fans were left worried about whether Gadot would ever don the tights as the iconic hero again. Fortunately, she is returning to another great role, as she returns to the beloved The Fast and Furious franchise as Gisele Yashar in the upcoming movie, Fast X.
Of course, fans of the Fast and Furious franchise have been scratching their heads at how, exactly, Gal Gadot is supposed to return as her old character, Gisele. Her character actually died back in 2013 in Fast & Furious 6. With Fast X slated to release on May 19, 2023, it’s not clear how her character would still be alive a decade later.
However, it’s worth noting that the Fast franchise has played “fast” and loose with its cast of characters before. For example, we saw Sung Kang’s character Han Lu apparently die in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift back in 2006, and he popped up again in the 2021 film F9. Ironically, a tendency for seemingly dead characters to return from the dead (we’re looking at you, Superman) is one of the few things that really links the Fast franchise with Gal Gadot’s other big franchise: the DCU.
Another thing linking these two franchises is her friend and sometimes costar Jason Momoa. He proved to be one of the few bright spots of the DCU and helped turn Aquaman into a billion-dollar franchise. There are strong rumors that he might appear in future DC movies as Lobo, but right now, he is set to star alongside Gal Gadot in Fast X.
Is Gal Gadot returning to Fast X because she is hedging her bets? Possibly; it doesn’t hurt to appear in other major franchises when her future as Wonder Woman seems to be one big question mark. Of course, some fans think she is returning to the Fast franchise out of gratitude for basically launching her career.
In 2009, Gal Gadot starred in Fast & Furious, the fourth movie in this long-running franchise. She was only 24 years old at the time and a real unknown around Hollywood. Her appearance in that movie and its sequel helped her make a major impression on studios and fans alike as an actor who could handle major action blockbusters. This ultimately helped her land the role of Wonder Woman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, eventually appearing in two solo movies featuring her character and the troubled ensemble film Justice League.
Aside from her returning to star in Fast X, it’s not quite clear what the future looks like for Gal Gadot. Previously, she filmed cameo roles as Wonder Woman for the upcoming Flash movie as well as for Shazam: Fury of the Gods. However, her cameo in Flash has (like so much else planned for that doomed movie) been cut, and her Shazam cameo may be cut, as well.
In other words, we don’t know what Warner Bros. will do with Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in the future, and that’s assuming they do anything at all. However, she has some other high-profile roles coming up, including one where she will portray the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action remake of the cartoon classic Snow White. Whether she’s driving a car, carrying a sword, or giving out poisoned apples, it looks like Gadot has plenty to keep her busy.
