The hit superhero series The Boys has responded to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent, much-mocked release of a line of NFT “trading cards” portraying himself in various heroic poses by posting a parody on Twitter. Specifically, The Boys posted (via the Vought International Twitter account, which portrays itself as belonging to the fictional evil corporation in the show) an image of the Homelander (Antony Starr) standing in a heroic pose in front of Vought Tower and claiming to have released a similar NFT line as Trump. You can see for yourself.

The Boys is no stranger to satire, with the entire show (as well as the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson it was adapted from) parodying superhero comics, corporate business, and American culture in general. The Boys showrunner has explicitly said that the character of the superhuman Homelander was directly patterned on Trump, with the shockingly violent season 3 finale being inspired by the time the then-Presidential candidate claimed he could shoot someone on New York City’s Fifth Avenue and not lose votes.

As such, it is not surprising that The Boys would be quick to snap into Trump satire mode and get this particular image up nearly immediately. It is also worth noting that the show is produced by and streamed on Amazon Prime Video, which is majority owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos, an open critic of the former President. However, it is also worth noting that all is fair in love, war, and public satire, so this should be the least of Trump’s worries.

Aside from The Boys, former President Trump is being widely mocked on both social media and many news outlets for the move to release NFTs, in part because the NFT market has vastly diminished from its bubble in 2021. Many pundits are also criticizing Trump’s marketing the move as a “MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT” and for portraying the 76-year-old reality show host as a muscular superhero in a boxing ring. If nothing else, The Boys is lucky that it has a locked and loaded method of commenting on this particular major announcement by Trump.

The Boys does not solely focus on former President Trump as a satirical target in politics, with the show introducing a character widely considered to be an analog to popular progressive U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Of course, The Boys being The Boys, the character of Victoria Neuman (portrayed by Claudia Doumit) is a secret superhuman who can blow people’s heads up with her mind. As the Tweet above shows, the show’s satire is not particularly subtle.

The fourth season of The Boys does not yet have a release date, though it is expected to land on Amazon Prime Video in the fall of 2023. As one of the most popular shows on the streaming service, it is currently in the process of developing multiple spin-offs, including the upcoming Gen V. Until then, we shall just have to watch in real-time to see how The Boys dunks on Trump next.
