Most Beloved Children’s Book Character Getting Prequel Movie
A Winnie the Pooh prequel movie is on the way from former DreamWorks producers.
Now that Winnie the Pooh has entered the public domain, it means that anyone can write a new story that involves him and the rest of his pals from the 100 Acre Woods. Granted, the first person to do so made the characters into a story that involved a violent horror movie, but that is what the public domain is for. Now, DreamWorks alumni are getting together to reboot the classic children’s story with a new Winnie the Pooh prequel movie.
The producers for this new Winnie the Pooh prequel are aiming to have the same level of success that Paddington and Peter Rabbit have had in recent years. Mike de Seve is set to direct this new story, and he has famously worked on Madagascar and Monsters vs. Aliens. Seve will co-write the movie with John Reynolds, who famously worked on The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show. The pair will work on the movie first, which will then lead into a series that could be a continuation of the prequel.
De Seve’s Baboon animation studio will produce this Winnie the Pooh prequel movie along with the Winvest Group subsidiary IQI. Charlene Kelly, who previously worked at DreamWorks and is now CIO at Winvest will serve as an executive producer along with Khiow Hui Lim, who is the founder of IQI. The group has plenty of hope that this new prequel take on everyone’s favorite bear will mirror the same success as the previously mentioned relaunches of classic children’s stories.
It is curious to think about what could be involved with a Winnie the Pooh prequel movie. Granted, the entirety of the story revolves around Christopher Robin and his imaginary bear friend, Winnie the Pooh, engaging in all kinds of heartwarming hijinks with the rest of Robin’s stuffed animals. We could see the time when Robin only owned Pooh, and the rest of the gang had not yet been acquired.
Another idea for this Winnie the Pooh prequel could be that we get to see Christopher Robin be a child without any friends, up until he stumbles upon acquiring Winnie the Pooh. Either way, we would imagine that there is going to be a lot of heart and imagination in this new take on A.A. Milne’s classic story. Milne based the story on his own son, and his son’s toys, so it would be interesting to see if the prequel will attempt to change things up that might not mirror that fact exactly.
The newest Winnie the Pooh movie saw a much older Christopher Robin (titled the same), portrayed by Ewan McGregor, so it is going to be great that the prequel is going to be going the opposite way in time. Robin might even be a baby, and his parents gift him the Pooh stuffed animal, and we get to see the pair grow up with one another.
The Winnie the Pooh prequel is slated for a release in 2024, and with the previously mentioned horror movie coming to theaters in 2023, it’s the perfect time to remind ourselves that Pooh is not a homicidal maniac.
