Taylor Swift To Write And Direct Her First Movie
Pop star Taylor Swift has another talent she’s ready to share with the world. The singer-songwriter is making her directorial debut with Searchlight Pictures on a script she has written, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Her short film, All Too Well, showed at both the Tribeca Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival this year and is within the window to qualify for the upcoming 95th Oscar ceremony.
Taylor Swift is a pop icon whose most recent tour caused a major snafu with Ticketmaster when pre-sale ticket orders were so voluminous that the site became backed up as fans all over the country descended upon it to score seats to the show. She is also no stranger to directing, having directed three of her own music videos, “The Man,” “Cardigan,” and “Willow.” The international superstar started out writing songs and then setting up storyboards in time with the music.
There have been no details released about the script for the project, so attention has turned to All Too Well: The Short Film, which features Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien as a couple in the midst of a breakup. The movie shows the pair arguing and then shows Sink reeling after an emotional breakup. Taylor Swift is well known for writing songs about relationships and breakups while also showing resilience and feminine strength under these circumstances.
The pop star moved to Nashville at the age of 14 to become a country music singer, but very quickly branched out to electronic and synthesized sounds. Taylor Swift finally shed her country image for pop with the release of her 2014 album 1989, which featured the hit song “Shake It Off.” This album was named for the year of her birth and represents a re-inventing of her style and music.
More than simply a singer, Taylor Swift has amazed the charts with how popular her songs are and how many record sales she has made. She is the only artist with five platinum albums, and they have stacked her resume with numerous Grammys, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and even 84 nods in the Guinness Books of World Records. She has been Artist of the Year as well as Artist of the Decade and has been honored by the Time 100 and the Forbes Celebrity 100 for her influence and business acumen.
As Taylor Swift is such a powerhouse of creative talent, a movie deal with her at the helm is simply another evolution of her genius and business sense. She wrote the script herself and Searchlight Pictures acquired the rights, with Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield very excited to work with her. The pop icon has said in interviews that she hopes to follow in the footsteps of other powerful female directors such as Norah Efron or Chloé Zhao.
Searchlight Pictures is also used to working with a lot of high-end talent. The studio recently announced that they are developing a project with Oscar nominee Yorgos Lanthimos, the Greek director known for The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer. The talent of someone like Taylor Swift is
