Jensen Ackles Got To Keep A Huge Part Of Supernatural
After a show ends, it’s common for actors to keep a piece of their character — a prop, costume, or otherwise – whether the production knows about it or not. Jensen Ackles, star of Amazon’s The Boys, made off with one of the greatest hauls in television history. In an interview with Digital Spy, Ackles revealed that on the last day of filming the CW hit Supernatural, he got to drive home in his character’s muscle car.
Jensen Ackles played Dean Winchester on Supernatural over the course of 15 seasons for a whopping 327 episodes. Throughout the show, Dean exhibited a deep connection to his black 1967 Chevy Impala. Out of character, Ackles had his eye on the car since the show began in 2005.
When the show wrapped up in 2020, Jensen Ackles took possession of his Supernatural ride, fulfilling a fantasy 15 years in the making. After more than a decade of being the hot rod’s fictional owner, Ackles finally got to put the ride in his real world garage. Jensen clarified that he did so with permission from the show’s producers, of course.
Jensen Ackles took on a character with an even sweeter ride after Supernatural, though he may have a harder time taking home an animated version of the Batmobile. Ackles voiced the Caped Crusader in Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One and Part Two, an animated adaptation of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s comic book limited series from the 90s. Ackles reprises the role in the upcoming animated film Legion of Superheroes.
Ackles has impressed fans with his stoic portrayal of the Dark Knight. Batman has been voiced by a number of iconic actors over the decades, none more legendary than the late and great Kevin Conroy. Jensen Ackles, ready for a strong showing outside of Supernatural, has so far lived up to the task.
Since Jensen Ackles ended Supernatural in 2020 and voiced a superhero in 2021, it only makes sense that 2022 would mark his debut as a supervillain. Ackles checked in as Soldier Boy on the third season of Amazon’s acclaimed superhero satire The Boys. On ice in a Russian lab since the 80s, Soldier Boy reawakens in the modern day as the definition of toxic masculinity; the character is a parody of both Captain America and Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier.
While Jensen Ackles has not yet been confirmed to return for the upcoming fourth season of The Boys, the Supernatural actor has teased his return on social media. Ackles coming back as the problematic antagonist in the fourth and allegedly final season of The Boys would be a fun twist for fans, as Ackles’ Soldier Boy became a quick audience-favorite during his seven-episode tenure last season.
Actors with roles as prolific and iconic as that of Jensen Ackles on Supernatural often struggle to define themselves beyond the movie or show that made them famous. Only two years removed from the Supernatural finale, Ackles is already doing a superb job. Thanks to the team behind Supernatural, wherever Jensen Ackles’ career takes him next, he’s sure to be headed there in style.
