Jennifer Lopez Wants A Sequel To The Worst Film Ever Made
Singer, actress, and dancer Jennifer Lopez has a long-running career full of exciting projects, some massive successes, and some box office failures. The actress has now made an odd choice in selecting one of those failures to be the subject of a sequel she would like to make. People have reported that in a Q&A video with Vogue, Jennifer Lopez chose Gigli as the movie she would love to make a sequel to, which has been collectively agreed upon as being the worst film ever made, not to mention a complete financial failure.
Jennifer Lopez and Affleck starred in Gigli, an American comedy crime movie directed by Martin Brest, known for Scent of a Woman and Meet Joe Black. But Gigli didn’t achieve the success of those two films.
Gigli is well known for being the worst movie ever made and as a financial bomb. Against a budget of $75.6 million, the film only grossed $7.5 million. It has a 6% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, siting that it is bizarre and clumsy, and that Lopez and Affleck had no on-screen chemistry.
In a 2022 Entertainment Weekly interview, Affleck acknowledged that the movie just didn’t work. He stated, “But really, the truth about that movie and what it taught me was how much everything around a movie sort of dictates the way people see it. But for being a movie that’s such a famous bomb and a disaster, very few people actually saw the movie.”
Why would Jennifer Lopez feel that Gigli is a movie that needs a sequel? If the relationship with Affleck was worth another shot, perhaps she feels the movie deserves one as well. That could end up being the worst decision ever, apart from moving forward with Gigli in the first place.
In July 2022, Jennifer Lopez married Gigli co-star Ben Affleck (The Accountant and Tender Bar) after the two rekindled their relationship in April 2021. Both actors have been vocal about the gift of being given a second chance in the relationship. Lopez and Affleck previously dated between 2002-2004 and have always spoken highly of one another, even after the split in 2004.
They were engaged for the first time in 2002, but that wedding was canceled four days before the ceremony was scheduled to take place due to “excessive media attention.” Twenty years after the first proposal Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck would give it another go and become engaged again with a marriage ceremony taking place on July 16, 2022, in Las Vegas. This event would mark 21 years after their first introduction on the set of Gigli.
The first significant meeting between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck was on the set of Gigli. They also worked on her “Jenny from the Block” music video and the movie Jersey Girl in 2004. She would go on to dedicate her This Is Me album to Affleck, and they were one of the first couples to garner a “ship” name, Bennifer.
Jennifer Lopez may feel some nostalgia for Gigli as the film brought her and Affleck together. Even though their first run at a relationship did work out, they are now happily married, and the actress undoubtedly has a new outlook on life. She may want to give Gigli another go to prove it could be better in a continued story.
