Christina Ricci Didn’t Know What Her Series Was Really About

On top of returning to the world of the Addams Family, Christina Ricci is also part of a hit Showtime series called, Yellowjackets. Ricci admitted to not knowing what was going to happen in the show, as she stated, “I didn’t really know that it was going to be folk horror. You have to understand, we had very little information in the beginning; people played it all very close to the chest, what was going on for the rest of the season.”

What Christina Ricci is alluding to is that the timelines for Yellowjackets might have confused her, including the audience, as a group of girls is stranded in the Canadian wilderness in 1996. Their lives are then catapulted into 2021, as the women are still plenty affected by the trauma from doing what they had to survive, including engaging in some cannibalism and a cult. We would imagine that even being told about these plot points would confuse anyone, as they can intertwine and change in a myriad of ways.

What makes this revelation much more exciting, is that we are likely seeing the true reactions from Christina Ricci in Yellowjackets, though they are manifested in her character. Though she is still acting, we are likely seeing her react with a bit of truthfulness as her character Misty Quigley. Whatever the producers and directors wanted to accomplish, they seemed to have done so quite well, considering Ricci was still confused as to where the story was going.

Whatever the recipe for this show was, it was the right one, as Christina Ricci and Yellowjackets were renewed quite quickly on Showtime. The series still holds a staggering 100% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a 78% audience rating. Those impressive numbers led to a series renewal a mere month after the series had first premiered on the Showtime network.

We also are not sure about how much deeper this “folk horror” aspect is going to get in the second season, but we hope that Christina Ricci is just as confused at her role when Yellowjackets returns, presumably in 2023. The series has a darker, yet similar, feel comparable to Lord of the Flies. It has been some time since we all engaged in a story of this caliber, but the flashbacks are something that adds far more context and wonderment to what is happening with the girls in 1996 and in 2021.

We would assume that Christina Ricci and her character’s role in Yellowjackets Season 2 is going to be explained far deeper, especially in terms of what happened with this cult, an aspect that Ricci was also completely enthralled with. We are also excited to see what is going to happen in the sophomore season.

As previously mentioned, there is no official release date just yet, but we would assume that Christina Ricci and Yellowjackets are set to return in 2023. The hope is that it is going to be in early 2023, as the series was renewed back in December 2021. We will certainly update everyone with a trailer when it releases, and we hope it is just as bizarre as the first season has been, especially with revelations about what the girls went through in the forest.
