Kendrick Lamar Height – How Tall Is The Rapper?
Rapper, composer and award-winning artist Kendrick Lamar is 5 feet, 6 inches (five feet, six inches) tall.
Kendrick Lamar is a Grammy-winning, Pulitzer Prize-winning, and Billboard Music Awards-winning rapper and songwriter. Lamar is often considered to be one of the most influential hip-hop artists to have come along in a long time. But with all of his accolades, many of his fans are curious about one thing as it pertains to the popular hip-hop artist – just what is Kendrick Lamar’s height?
KENDRICK LAMAR WAS BORN IN 1987 IN COMPTON, CALIFORNIA
Okay, we will be the first to admit that the “what is Kendrick Lamar’s height” question is probably not the most burning question fans have about Kendrick Lamar. The American rapper was born in Compton, California on June 17, 1987. Somehow, even though growing up in a gang environment, Lamar himself never joined.
Kenrick Lamar’s closest friends when he was growing up were members of the Westside Piru Bloods gang and his father, Kenny Duckworth, was himself a member of the Gangster Disciple gang. It was amazing that through it all, living with all the gang violence surrounding him, Kendrick Lamar remained untouched.
Kendrick Lamar’s height wasn’t an issue when he went to school in the Compton Unified School District and admittedly was very quiet and shy in school. His mother even called Lamar a loner until he reached the age of seven. As Kendrick Lamar was reaching his full height, he continued to be a very good student, graduating high school with straight A’s.
KENDRICK LAMAR WAS INSPIRED BY SEEING A TUPAC MUSIC VIDEO BEING FILMED
Before Kendrick Lamar reached the height of his powers, he says it was a music video that he was able to see being filmed that was one of the more significant moments in his young life. Lamar was only eight years old when the video, which was for the Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre single California Love, proved to be a turning point for Lamar and the direction he’d eventually go with his life. In fact, Lamar hadn’t even graduated when he released his very first full-length project.
His first project, released in 2003, was a mixtape and it was one that he didn’t release with his name, but instead with the pseudonym, K.Dot. For the first few years of his career, he stuck with the K.Dot moniker and although he wasn’t growing in height, he was certainly beginning to grow in his career.
Up through 2009, as Kendrick Lamar was reaching the height of his fame, he continued to go by K.Dot and it wasn’t until he released his third mixtape that Lamar decided to begin recording and releasing music under his birth name. It was a smart move for the up-and-coming rap artist. While Kendrick Lamar’s height was leveling off, his career was just beginning to explode.
HE WON THE PULITZER PRIZE IN 2018
The list is short. So short, in fact, that there is only one name on the list – Kendrick Lamar. The list we are referring to is the one where rappers win the Pulitzer Prize. It happened on April 16, 2018, when the Pulitzer Prize Board awarded Lamar the Pulitzer Prize for Music for his 2017 album, DAMN. The award took Lamar’s career to a new height.
Kendrick Lamar made history with the announcement of the Pulitzer win. It was the very first time that the award has gone out to any musical work outside the classical music and jazz genres. For Kendrick Lamar, this was a new height. It was also the beginning of a major shift as to how the American elites were finally beginning to recognize the growing importance of hip-hop music and the legitimacy of rappers and their artistic medium.
In their announcement of the award, the Pulitzer committee said about DAMN that it was “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African American life.”
Pulitzer administrator Dana Canedy said the decision was unanimous in making Kendrick Lamar the first hip-hop artist to get the Pulitzer, adding that the win was “a big moment for hip-hop music and a big moment for the Pulitzers.”
This was a huge deal for not only the music industry but more specifically for the recognition of Kendrick Lamar’s talent and for hip-hop’s contribution to American culture. Of course, not everyone was on board with the decision, as a number of those within the classical music community were not happy with the announcement. But there were also former winners and nominees who were thrilled with the announcement.
HE FACED BACKLASH WITH AUNTIE DIARIES
While there have been positives in the career of Kendrick Lamar, there has also been a setback or two. The latest bit of controversy came with Lamar’s latest album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. It had been five years since Lamar had produced new music, so fans were excited to hear his new work.
Although the album took home two Grammys, there was one song on the 14-song lineup that did not go over well with the LGBTQ+ community. The song is titled Auntie Diaries and is a first-person account (Lamar’s) of how he learned about his uncle transitioning to a female. It was the first line – “My auntie is a man now” – that started the troubles, and it all went downhill from there.
As the song continues, Lamar constantly uses a specific “F” word slur that is commonly thrown at queer people. He mixes up his relatives’ pronouns and he uses names that they no longer use, commonly referred to as “deadnaming.” Time will tell as to how this controversy will affect his career, if at all.
KENDRICK LAMAR ISN’T ON SOCIAL MEDIA
With Kendrick Lamar’s career still not reaching its full height, one would think he would be totally on board with a social media presence. Unfortunately, that is one place you won’t be seeing much of him. He finally confessed to why he doesn’t partake in the social media frenzy.
“People ask me, ‘Man, you’ve never been on social media, you really hate it?’” he said to Citizen Magazine. “Bro, I don’t really know how to use it like that to be 100% real with you. I got friends, family, my team, they send me things, so I got good sentiments on what’s going on.”
This doesn’t mean he is completely devoid of being on social media. Kendrick Lamar does find a little bit of time on Twitter and although he has an Instagram account, he has yet to post on it. Thankfully, Kendrick Lamar has not needed social media to reach the career height he now finds himself.
FEUD WITH DRAKE
Kendrick Lamar and Drake have been at it for years with the feud only seeming to ramp up more and more since its inception in 2013. It was then when Lamar called out several rappers, including Drake, in his verse on Big Sean’s “Control.”
Initially, things were moderately friendly, but their relationship soured when the artists began exchanging subliminal jabs and diss tracks.
The rivalry ramped up in late 2023 when J. Cole referred to them as part of the “Big Three” in hip-hop, prompting Kendrick Lamar release tracks like “Euphoria” and “Meet the Grahams,” which contained serious allegations about Drake’s personal life and parenting.
Not to be outdone, Drake released tracks like “Family Matters,” accusing Lamar of domestic abuse and infidelity.
It’s dividing the fanbases and doesn’t appear anywhere close to stopping.
KENDRICK LAMAR’S HEIGHT IS 5 FEET, 6 INCHES
Kendrick Lamar now stands at a full 5 feet 6 inches. He’s among the most talented and famous rappers and entertainers out there right now.
