From the trailer alone, we can tell that Mantis was going to be getting more of a spotlight, but this time with the help of Dave Bautista’s Drax. We certainly applaud Marvel and Disney for wanting to branch out and do something completely different with the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. It appears that both Werewolf by Night and the holiday special are aiming to branch out and offer fans a much different look at some of the best comic content available. While the above review is simplistic in its delivery, we appreciate that the GotG are wanting to make something that makes sense in their world by turning Christmas into universal lore.
For being only a 44-minute movie, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special has opened with quite a favorable Rotten Tomatoes score. While everyone was hoping to see a much grander adventure, we are glad this new holiday special is only aiming to bring joyful laughs while serving as the presumed prologue to the final GotG movie.
James Gunn has taken over DC Films and is leaving behind Marvel for the foreseeable future. We are not sure if any of the characters are going to appear in any other MCU entries, but we are glad they will be getting a proper send-off.
