Avri Roel Downey – Who Is Robert Downey Jr.’s Daughter?
Avri Roel Downey is the eight-year-old daughter of actor and star Robert Downey Jr.
Iron Man has a daughter. No, this is not breaking news, as Robert Downey Jr’s daughter, Avri (pronounced Ay-Vree) Roel Downey, recently celebrated her eighth birthday, but for those who don’t follow the Downeys (Robert and his wife, producer Susan Downey), it could be news, nonetheless.
Even with parents who are all about Hollywood, Avri has yet to make the leap onto a movie set although, as you will see, she has been featured prominently on a few of Robert Downey Jr’s social media videos.
ROBERT DOWNEY JR’S DAUGHTER, AVRI ROEL DOWNEY WAS BORN IN 2014
Avri Roel Downey came blazing into this world on November 4, 2014. Her birth was proceeded by a fun announcement by Robert Downey Jr on his Facebook page.
On it he wrote, “After 9 months of intensive development, Team Downey is pleased to announce our 2014 fall/winter project. Principal photography commenced 11-14 and will continue until she says, “Dad! You are embarrassing me…I’m 30, this has gotta stop.” Yep…Avri Roel Downey joined the party @ 3:22 a.m. on November 4th…she’s 7lbs even, spans 20 inches, and is accompanied by a variety of Susan’s traits that have seemingly overwritten my “junk DNA.” I’ll post pics here + there when I’m not too busy staring…”
You may be curious about Avri’s middle name, Roel, as it is very unique. The inspiration of her middle name comes from both sets of her grandparents. The first two characters of her middle name, “Ro” is derived her paternal grandfather’s name, Robert, and his wife, who is named Rosemary. Also, Avri’s maternal grandmother, Susan’s mom, is named Rosie.
The last two letters of her middle name, “el”, come from Robert Downey Jr’s mother, Elsie, and Susan Downey’s father, Eliot Levin. Combining the grandparents’ names is a great way to honor Avri Roel Downey’s grandparents.
AVRI ROEL DOWNEY HAS TWO OLDER SIBLINGS, INDIO FALCONER AND EXTON ELIAS
Avri Roel Downey is not an only child. In fact, not only does she have an older brother from her parents, Robert and Susan, but she also has an older half-brother from Robert’s earlier relationship with Deborah Falconer. The two, Robert and Deborah, were married in 1992.
Indio Falconer Downey was born in September 1993, making him almost 30 years old. He was born in the middle of a tumultuous time in Robert and Deborah’s life, as Robert had been in and out of rehab for drugs and alcohol. Not only were they dealing with Robert’s substance abuse issues, but Robert was also finding himself in and out of jail, as well.
The strain of it all became too much for Deborah to handle, and rightfully so. She had just given birth to Indio, and Robert was still struggling with his demons. Somehow, Deborah hung in until 2001 when Downey Jr was going through another arrest and an extended stint in rehab, forcing Deborah to take Indio away from the situation for good. It took a few more years, but Downey Jr and Falconer finalized their divorce in 2004.
Avri Roel Downey’s other older brother is from Robert and Susan. Exton Elias Downey was born in February 2012, making him 10 years old. Although Exton’s welcome into the world was as normal as could be, the simple fact that Robert Downey Jr jumped the gun and revealed the baby’s sex on national television before he was born was something Susan was not too fond of.
“I could never really stay mad at him, but I can tell you it genuinely wasn’t something we planned to reveal,” Susan explained at the time. Thankfully, Robert was mum on their son’s name, joking with PEOPLE, “If I told you the name, then she would lop off my head with a machete.”
AVRI ROEL DOWNEY’S DAD IS IRON MAN
We have not made it a secret that Avri Roel Downey’s father is Robert Downey Jr, aka Tony Stark/Iron Man. But before Downey Jr. nailed the coveted role, his career had been rolling along at full speed. Downey Jr’s first introduction to film or television came way back in 1970 and then again in 1972.
His first noticeable role came in 1983 in the feature film titled Baby It’s You. From there, his roles became more than just minimal ones and he began to turn heads with his comedic performance as Derek in the Rodney Dangerfield hit, Back to School. The offers were beginning to grow.
Robert Downey Jr would then be seen in films such as The Pick-Up Artist, Less Than Zero, Chances Are, Air America, and the underrated Soapdish. All of these films were leading up to one of his more remarkable and memorable performances as Charlie Chaplin in the film, Chaplin, in which Downey Jr. received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Through all of his struggles, Downey Jr remained a big name in feature films. He was seen in movies like The Gingerbread Man, Bowfinger, Gothika (where he met his wife Susan), and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. He was also seen on the hit television show, Ally McBeal.
But it was in 2008 when Avri Roel Downey’s father truly jumped to the A-List category. It was his first adventure as Tony Stark/Iron Man. He was an immediate hit in the film and it pushed him to another one of his popular characters, Sherlock Holmes. He starred as Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective the following year.
Since that time, Robert Downey Jr has been at the top of everyone’s must-have Hollywood list of stars. He has gone on to star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe numerous times as Iron Man, the last coming in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, where it truly was the end for Downey Jr’s beloved character. Or so we think.
Although Marvel and Downey Jr have said time and again that his time as Tony Stark is done, we do know that Downey Jr will be back as one of his other beloved characters when he returns as Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock Holmes 3. There is no release date for that film as of yet.
HER MOTHER IS PRODUCER SUSAN LEVIN
Avri Roel Downey’s mother is quite successful in her own right. Before Susan became a “Downey,” she was Susan Levin and a successful producer. She met her future husband on the set of his film, Gothika, where Susan was also a producer. The pair only sort of hit it off at first, as Susan knew Downey Jr’s history and was reluctant to jump into a relationship with the oft-troubled actor.
After turning him down twice, they slowly began to see each other as both of their careers began to blossom. Susan became more and more locked into producing films and as her and Downey’s relationship turned from dating to marriage, they began to team up on projects as producers. They made their professional partnership a real thing in 2010 when they formed their Team Downey production company.
Now, Susan Downey is a well-known producer. On top of her own projects, she also executive produces all of her husband’s projects. Currently, she is working with Robert Downey Jr on his next project, The Sympathizer, a TV mini-series, and she is also working on his next feature, Sherlock Holmes 3. Avri Roel Downey’s parents are quite busy.

Thankfully, Avri Roel Downey is not an active participant on social media, especially since she is only 8 years old. But, this does not mean she doesn’t make it from time to time on her father’s social media. Take, for instance, a Halloween post that Robert Downey Jr put together for his fans.
In it, the playful father asks his kids, Exton and Avri (both shown in the video) to shave his head for his next project, The Sympathizer. The rest is pure fun.
That video is not the only time Avri Roel Downey has been seen on her father’s Instagram page. He also posted the above picture of her buried in the sand.
