It’s been over sixteen years since Emily Blunt became a household name thanks to her role in 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada, and she thinks it’s high time she return to the role, according to a CNN report. In a recent appearance on The View, the A Quiet Place star told the panel that she would reprise her role as Emily, the cold, ambitious assistant who serves under the ruthless hand of Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), “in a heartbeat.” While there to promote her new Amazon Prime Video series The English, she seemed to endorse a sequel to the film, which was a box office smash and earned two Oscar nominations.

Blunt joked she would love to revisit the character just to get another chance to wear the signature green eyeshadow her character wore so prominently in the first film, which hasn’t aged very well. “The green eye shadow is so horrifying, it has to get another outing. So bad,” she joked.

Unfortunately, Emily Blunt may be the only member of the cast up for a sequel. Meryl Streep has not discussed the possibility of a follow-up, and she rarely does sequels, with Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again marking the only time she has reprised a role on the big screen. The three-time Oscar winner has voiced her affection for the role, but not a willingness to reprise it.

Anne Hathaway, who has also recently appeared on The View, seemed to dismiss a return, saying a Devil Wears Prada sequel wouldn’t fit with today’s changes in technology. “It’s tempting, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. I just think that movie was in a different era…everything’s gone so digital…and that movie is centered around the concept of producing a physical thing,” she said, although she thought a reboot, with a new cast for a new era, might work. She did admit, however, that it would be interesting to see where the films characters, including Stanley Tucci’s Nigel, are now.

Even director David Frankel seemed reluctant to revisiting the film, saying it was made at the end of a publishing era.

Emily Blunt had appeared in only a handful of British TV series and films prior to being cast in The Devil Wears Prada, and her career went through the roof after her scene-stealing role in the film. Within a year, she was cast in three high-profile films: Dan in Real Life with Steve Carell, The Jane Austen Book Club with Hugh Dancy, and Charlie Wilson’s War with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. Bigger roles followed, including The Young Victoria, The Wolfman and Matt Damon’s The Adjustment Bureau.

Her roles in 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow and 2015’s Sicario put her firmly on the A-list, with her role in the A Quiet Place films (directed by her husband John Krasinski) proving she is a box office draw. Her work with Disney as the leads in both Mary Poppins Returns and Jungle Cruise (with Dwayne Johnson), a film she will return for with a sequel.

After Krasinski appeared as Mr. Fantastic in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, rumors abounded that he would play the role in the upcoming film as well, even though he was a multiverse variant of the character. That, in turn, sparked even more rumors that she would appear as Sue Storm in the film. Although her husband made a splash in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she herself isn’t a fan of current superhero films, although appearing with her husband may be too tempting to ignore.

In addition to The English, which is out now, Emily Blunt will appear in next year’s Oppenheimer, as well as the Ryan Gosling big-screen reimagining of the 80s TV show The Fall Guy.
