Fans of the Supernatural prequel The Winchesters may get to see some of their favorite characters from the mothership series return in the finale. Meg Donnelly, who plays Mary in the series, told E! News that the finale will be suitably epic and will feature “a lot of guests, apparently,” adding that she thinks the guests will be from Supernatural. Of course, Donnelly was quick to point out that they’re keeping things secret for now, so she’s not entirely sure if the guest stars will definitely be from the original series.
The Winchesters star Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger as John and Mary, the parents of Sam and Dean Winchester from Supernatural. The prequel series tells the story of how they fell in love and how they saved the world together. Along with Donnelly and Rodger, the series stars Nida Khurshid, Jojo Fleites, Demetria McKinney, Bianca Kajlick, and Jensen Ackles narrating as Dean Winchester.
The Winchesters is produced by the husband and wife duo of Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles, the latter of who played Anael in the original series. If anyone had the sway to get some of the actors back from Supernatural, they would be the ones to do it. The question is, who would they bring back considering the prequel takes place in the 1970s?
Obviously, they wouldn’t be bringing back any of the younger actors who played younger characters on Supernatural. While Jensen Ackles fits as the narrator of The Winchesters, his character wouldn’t actually be able to make an appearance in the story and the same goes for Jared Padalecki, who played Sam. Of course, it’s not like there weren’t characters that were old enough in the original series to show up as younger versions in the prequel, plus there are always time-travel shenanigans to consider.
So far, The Winchesters has been pretty successful for the CW. The show managed to be the most-viewed premiere of the season for the network, and it has pretty good reviews (though fan opinions are fairly mixed on this front.) The downside is that the CW has been canceling shows left and right with ten shows in 2022 canceled already. With Nexstar Media Group taking a controlling interest in the network and indicating that they want to cut costs, it’s up in the air if the Supernatural prequel will be given the green light for a second season.
Hopefully, the season finale of The Winchesters is as epic as Meg Donnelly says and it’s able to bring in the viewers in droves. It seems like strong ratings are the only things that will prevent CW shows from getting the ax in the near future. The promise of seeing some Supernatural fan-favorite characters could certainly entice more viewers to tune in and check out if this prequel series is a worthy spin-off to the beloved original. The most recent episode of the series aired on November 1.
The Winchesters will be returning from its brief break on November 15. Subsequent episodes will air on Tuesdays. Be sure to check the show out if you want to help make sure it gets another season.
